You will never make living money in spec work. Super strong designers can maybe pull $5 hr in spec work.

How about working at a design studio/agency in your city? Freelancing is something you need to be very established and experienced to get by in. The older the better.

I mess around on 99designs to kill time before I start studying later this month but not expecting to make much, if anything, out of it. It does really devalue the service.

They are literally rubbish, it's a kinda big city in Spain, but very "rural". I'm thinking on opening my own studio, my studies are on business, not graphic design, but I know what works, and how to make it.
