best book i bought this year by far. Don't let it's size or price put you off, it's biblical. Along with that I'd recommend The Elements of typographic style. Currently reading that, it's hard at first but once you've become savvy with type terms you'll do fine. Making and breaking the grid is by far the 'worst' book i got.
