have you considered doing the same monogram style with solid shapes instead of lines? I like the idea but the outline look kinda makes it seem more busy than it should be for a logo. kind of reminds me of a maze. it may not be as easily recognizable as a combined M and D as you'd like.

I think the max davis text is fine. if you keep the line work for the icon of the logo I think the weight of that font matches up nicely.

Not that anon, but this is where you draw the line of trying too hard. I can totally see the symmetry that seduced you to just reproduce the "j" in the "f", but it improves nothing on the logo.

You remove one thing that was making it more clear (the dash of the "f"), adds useless information (the dot) and you do that to favour a symmetry that was already there from the start, though more elegantly. You can see the "j" converses with the "f" in his design already, it's alright as it is. But when you reshape the "f" like that, you seem to be going not for the balance between the letters itself, but for showing off explicitly that they reflect each other, you want the viewer to notice it more than aesthetically, but consciously as well. Besides, when you push the symmetry too far like this, the thing which is not symmetrical (the "m" that would be a "w" after a radial turn) stands out and appears to be either more important, or something the designer forgot to think about.

I don't think the anon's logo is brilliant or anything, but I'm glad he didn't go that route you took, anon. Hope you take this as something to think about your own designs.

yeah, it isn't unlike your contemporaries - it reminds me of a certain steak house actually - but it's not very good, being honest. It's a bit "histrionic" (a word I had to google for), that is, it draws attention to itself, it's chest bare, and it's ugly, not a great combo.

There is far too much detail. It's a cool effect, but what you need is something iconic and reproducible. I played around in AI a bit to see if I could do any better, so I'll show what I made, and I don't think it's an improvement, but rather a bit along the lines what I was insinuating - strip away as much as you can and make the few elements you leave in communicate what you want.

I would take out the underline on community and make it all caps, fitting it between the left edge like it is now, and have it end at the end of the N, instead of in that gap of the B.

The mark needs refinement, the white seperations feel too thin/weak, it's slightly on the overly complex side and only moderately aesthetically pleasing.

You have weird edges, aliasing issues and all kinds of other visual dirt on your lines, bet you $5 you did this in photoshop.

The copy underdeveloped too, it's not bad, but it's also not very well designed, it doesn't speak to quality.

My advice would be to try and make a sleeker, simpler and more aesthetic version of the same mark, then really buckle down on composition ( play around a lot) and get a good form factor and good typography, then we'll see!
