I'm gonna hold off working retail somewhere until I really need the money. I have about eight months.
Glorified sign guy here, happy I have what I do. Looking to move soon, terrified.

Not to discourage you, but when I got laid off, I had only been there for eight months. I had left my decent previous job to come to the new place, made a lot more money, and was in a good environment. And then it all vaporized.
I still wouldn't go back, though (the work wasn't bad, but I didn't like the people, and I could be making way more).
Stepping stones.

I'm in a weird backwards scenario.
I live over 2k miles from my home state - and my job is so great, I could go through it but yeah I love it.
Thing is it's flyover country - why I'm paid what I'm paid and do what I do. But there's not future, and my family, friends, life has been passing me by.
I appreciate the insight, the shit part is I''m going from being invaluable to disposable.
To give you an example, I'm hoping to format the vehicle wraps and g-code for carved signs for this company when I move back home, simply put using me off site is less of a pain then trying to find or train someone locally.
But all that is small dollars. Our whole business is small dollars, even in the big leagues. We have all made terrible financial mistakes, but I wouldn't change a thing.

Yeah pretty much the same situation with greater distances. My prior job was far away from the city and my friends.
Good luck. If the next job doesn't work out, make a plan B I guess.
