What are some web design inspiration websites that showcase FUNCTIONAL designs?

I'm getting fed up with generic white background bootstrap portfolio design #37328

I need inspiration for functional web design that isn't just different shades of white with an accent color.

bootstrap is limited

Check out www.ubuntu.com

Its a very fucking huge web site that looks good and has a bunch of satellite sites as well.
>>

as someone who makes a living off selling template website, this gave me a genuine kek

there is a place for template sites btw.
low budget small business websites.

Good one!

>>292556
I build primarily large community driven websites and it's so hard to find inspiration that doesn't look like shit. I'm no designer by any means so my workflow is basically copying things I like and changing them.
>>
The trend is like that because it works. It's not always about being completely unique and different. This is not exactly art.
>>
>>292061
So remind me again why would someone pay a (((designer))) to do shit like this?
>>
>>292805
I think that's OP's point, son.
>>
I don't see what's bad with it. It's a style, but you can always add your touch as a designer and make it unique. It's a current trend because it is working well, and also, it is only popular for brochures anyway.

I think you guys bitch too much.

I wrote a mobile responsive page from scratch using just CSS 3/HTML 5... it's nothing crazy fancy. If you have a throwaway, you are more then welcome to a copy of it. It undoubtedly pales in comparison to most people's work, but your more then welcome to it. It flexes for mobile and tablet devices without bootstrap.
>>
Let me correct that, not 'page', but site. I did not mean to convey one single page.
>>
>>292869
This is how I work too. Other than a single server-side function to detect tablets vs. phones, all you really need for most responsive layouts is 4 or 5 media query blocks in your CSS. It makes me wonder how utterly clueless most bootstrap users are that they need to load in a framework with a shit-ton of scripts and assets before they can take a dump in the morning.
>>
>>292327
I work for a web firm that recently did a redesign for a university website and they used bootstrap.. The whole process was fucking painful and it ended up looking like shit.

If you put in a hamburger I'll kill you in your sleep

some clients think using a hamburger menu on desktop is "mobile first" thinking. i really hate people

Click the damburger button.
Only three links inside.
>>
>>293212
Exactly.

Or they'll cram in 12 tiers of expanding accordion links.

I would like to but to cover my ass professional I can't. I will say that it's in the north east US
>>
I really love Travis CI's user interface.
>>
>>293248
But that's an app and not a website, isn't it? You are mixing things now. Their website looks "generic" as everyone else's. That doesn't make it bad at all, though.

>>
>>293251
No, it's a website. This only shows once you have this set up for a project.
>>
>>293417
Thread is about design of informational websites, brochures, this is clearly an interactive app, doesn't matter if it is a part of the website. You can't use that layout for a portfolio e.g., right?
>>
>>293419
That's the not what the OP says, but whatever my dude.
>>
>>293420
Actually, my bad. Sorry. It's just that most of the links ITT were portfolios and people were talking about frameworks and templates + he attached a brochure design.

>>293484
It works, but I wouldn't call this inspirational in any way.
>>
>>292839
It definitely has it's uses. But when you're looking for inspiration that's more intricate than bootstrap design #42314 and all you find is this shit it gets annoying.

I don't use a server side function. I don't really know how to write server side functions. I use the @media CSS command for min/max device width. It's reliable, and foolproof. I don't think they are clueless; the process reminds me of that level in the Zoombinis with the mirrors.

Why should I pay someone $2500 for that, when I can simply go on PageCloud and with that amount of money I'll have 10 years worth of web services with hosting included and I never have to worry about anything? I can modify it whenever I want, however I want. There's no need to call for anyone. I can even redesign it myself if it becomes stale over time. There's no reason for a small to average business to spend thousands of dollars for customized vanity websites anymore, now that there are so many DIY solutions on the market.
