I'm going to follow their Motion Design curriculum as a self study experiment.
Will I get guud? Anyone ever done this? Who's an alumni?
>>

Don't do it unless you have money to burn and/or plan on moving to someplace in California, NYC, etc.

The curriculum and teachers are great, but the price is ridiculous.

>tfw can't afford Shillington.

I wish I could go there
>>

How good is Shillington? I've been considering it for sometime. I could take time off from work for 3 months, money is not that much of an issue. I have the sum but dropping that amount on 3 month course? I'm not that convinced.
>>
>>288653

Looks good to me and testimonials are good too. The best thing about it I think is that you leave with some professional, portfolio ready projects and also the experience of an intensive program with lots of crit.

Its nearly £8000 for the full time course, plus you have to live in London or Manchester and support yourself for 3 months so 10k minimum.

Self-teaching from home is not as easy as I thought it would be. I could really do with some direction, structure and criticism.
>>
>>288764
We're in the same boat then Buddy. I'm going through books but reading is not enough. I need to starting taking down notes and learn software.
>>
>>288808

See I can use the software ok its improving my actual design abilities and learning working methods and design history etc. Tutorials just aren't cutting it.

As for taking notes, I find it doesn't help me that much. Design is so hands on that note taking feels redundant a lot of the time. I've got shitloads of notes that I never even look at.

In terms of software, learning shortcuts and methods actually sticks best by sheer repetition. Although you do forget things if you don't practice regularly.
>>
Shillington´s about like 12,000$ for only 3 months.
Is there any good alternative in the NYC area? I´d probably like to spend 12k in a whole year desu.
Parsons maybe?
>>
>>288192
Start with print and layout etc... You'll need to design boards first before you dive into animating the thing.
Beautiful boards can land you jobs as well, provided you have some short 2-3 seconds of animation to show that you understand the principles of animation.

Shillington's students seem to have solid print fundamentals.
