Use your own name or make one up like "design monkey" to make your portfolio memorable?

Use your own name.

It's infinitely more difficult to rebrand yourself when the thrill of being known by a silly handle fades as your skill and tastes mature.
>>
>>275011
Sure but what about memorability / self-explainationibity?
>>
>>275013
That's what your actual work is for.

Ok, my fault, I asked for "portfolio" but I really meant digital identity as a graphic designer, there's a lot more stuff than your work there's also the ways you reach people through internet, sure your work has to be memorable but first you need an audience to put its eyes on you.

Just think about this:
- What was the name of that designer that had a monkey on its logo?
- Search "Monkey Design" on Google
- Ah, there he is...

See what I mean?

With this in mind I ask again: Is it better to use your own name or a creative name instead?
>>

No. Then you're just "monkey guy" for the rest of your career.

On top of that, people will make assumptions with stupid indentifiers:

Them: so you like to draw monkeys?
You: no , I'm a graphic desig-
Them: cause we need someone to draw some monkeys for us.
You: sure, I'd be happy to, but I mostly do-
Them: and make the monkeys look like Turq from Disney's Tarzan.
You: uh, but what about my portfolio of branding and identity?
Them: and we'll pay you $50 for three hours of work. Amazing how we found a guy who can draw monkeys!
>>
>>275035
>No. Then you're just "monkey guy"

And that's assuming you even show up immediately when one googles "Monkey Design."
>>
>>275035
What if you like drawing monkeys?
>>
>>275040
Don't be a jackass.

I get your point, guess I'll stick with my own name then, thanks /gd/!
