Opinions on what I am about to say please
Graphic designers are people who are too stupid and uneducated to be architects but wanted to go to uni and do something better than stacking shelves at woolworths.
They realise that pursuing art and making a living off it is too hard.
Another reason people get into my line of work is because they aren't talented enough to be tattoo artists.
Keep in mind that I am a graphic designer myself.
This is exactly what happened to me, except I didn't go to uni.
My thoughts were architecture and if that doesn't work out, then just graphics. Either way I'll be happy.
>>270811
most retarded thing i read today
congrats
>>270815
Just because you are offended by something doesn't make it "retarded" or untrue.
I never had any interest in architecture, and do little to no drawing so i never even considered tattooing people.
At the end of the day you should just do what you enjoy doing, for me and many others, that's graphics. It sounds like you're not enjoying it, maybe you should take a bit of time, take a step back and figure yourself out. You'll have a better life because of it.
>>270818
>implying
nigga /gd/ is an entirely different thing compared to architecture. how the fuck do u even compare the two.
you also seem to confuse /gd/ with art, which is not always the case. many designers work within fields which can hardly be called art. u call apps art?
>>270818
It's retarded and untrue because its retarded and untrue. Its retarded whether or not someone gets offended. And its retarded because architecture has nothing to do with much of gd and even where it can be compared, its still a totally different thing.
"Too stupid and uneducated to be architects".
What about those (like nearly all of us) that have no interest in architecture at all. Also tattoo artist? LOL, garbage.
>Keep in mind that I am a graphic designer myself.
As far as I know, you're just some butthurt kid who is failing at gd and the fact that some people here may have fantastic jobs in this field just destroys you. So go ahead then - go back to school and do that droning architecture shit. Maybe face painting at festivals is more within your range though.
something we all have to take into consideration here is that ALL graphic designers ARE stupid.
>>270811
Most of the graphic designers I know are right-brained people with an affinity for creating experiences.
>Do I enjoy engineering?
Yes, but I hate programming; so I only do it when the job needs me to.
>Was I studying architecture at some point?
Yes, but I live in a world were 99.9% of architects are forced to produce the same cookie cutter house for a different company every year.
>So I wanted to create unique pieces of work?
Yes, because I'm a special snow flake. However, time and money play a huge factor into creation, and I lack resources for such a scale as a house or skyscraper.
>So what did you do about it?
Went into Graphic and Game Design, because they are two things I can do within my financial budget yet still get the same enjoyment as I once did designing a $10 million dollar home.
>In summation
This is 4chan, we are all retarded, and everything we do here is meaningless and temporary. So maybe just enjoy yourself and stop thinking that people give a shit about you- cause we don't.
architects? Why architect of all things? Doing anything with architecture has literally never crossed my mind.
If anything, I would say graphic designers are wannabe artists that are too lazy and unmotivated to actually make it.
No such thing as talent, it's all just effort & hard work.
I have an economics degree and make $20/hour as a designer in a $10/hour area. Your point is invalid.
>>270811
Funny, I heard that before — the architect thing, for the rest, you’re a retard. Anyway it seems like there a certain hierarchy in some people's mind, architect being the best job in design, followed by product design, etc. But to me, this hierarchy is clearly from another time, we’ve entered the era of information since then. And the way information is displayed is graphic design. Point is, I’ve never cared for architecture, nowadays it’s has-been and I think this is the most exciting time to be a graphic designer.
>>270837
>ALL blah blah blah
I've worked with 5 graphic designers. I'm one myself. 1 of those 5 was stupid. So no. Just fucking no.
>>270822
>I want to create stuff for a living
>Do I create houses and get paid a lot?
>Nah, I'm too dumb for that I will just do an easy degree and get paid minimum wage.
This is the thought process behind studying graphic design.
>haha sweep swoop im a graphic designer
the boldest shit
>>270814
I must assume you are compensating for something. You must be so bitter because you lack creative talent and hate your job. You should have never gone into design, if these are your true feelings.
Being a bitter dick will never make anyone want to work with you. Be like your picture and burn up to ashes like a little non-evolved graphic designer you most likely are. Yes i'm offended by your whiny undergraduate bullshit and if you are designing a troll, you have succeeded.
True, some people don't think they can make it in the art world. Others just don't find a point in making people stare at something for 3 seconds. Architects make points in being arrogant belligerent cocks all the time. (most of the time)
Some, like you, maybe did it because they're so smart that they're lazy, and now they cant make serious money because they never took it seriously. Im an Industrial Designer, and have made many products, worked with engineers, patients, hospitals, medical staff, etc. Made chairs, websites, design initiatives, and marketing campaigns.
I had the lowest GPA in my graduating class because I took on projects because they were interesting, I had passion for them even though the time constraints would never allow me to complete them fully. I would stay up for DAYS doing my work. Only for it to fail. When I lost I didn't quit. It pushed me forward. Pompous arrogance, and defeated attitude like your own is why I get the work and you don't. Because I'm not an asshole. I'm the second after you quit, the minute of work longer, the one that beats you, and gets the jobs you never could. I can tell you sir, are just a cock.
>>270923
>i want to create stuff for a living!
>immediately jumps to houses
or maybe I just really like creating digital art and decided to make a career out of it?
love yourself, friend.
>>271028
I'm not the OP you fucking retard. I just described my two interests were architecture and design. I love design but before university was already at post degree level of skill and understanding. I thought architecture would provide a bigger challenge and a step up, but I didn't go for it.
sounds like you're trying to turn your own feelings into a generalization to feel better about yourself.
>>270811
>I feel this way, therefore everyone feels this way
Fucking brilliant m8, you should become a muslim, they like your kind.
Never wanted to be an architect, I have absolutely no interest in buildings
Now, on the art part for sure, I wish I could be an artist, which doesn't mean that I wouldn't do also graphic design because I really enjoy it.
Didn't wait anybody to tell me what graphic design was, I was already having fun making books and fanzines at 16, and obviously having fun on photoshop.
So: yes I'd have probably chosen an another career (artist) if I was not scared of not earning money there, but it doesn't change the fact that I'd still have done some graphic design as a big part of my life (and perhaps as part of my art practice) because I love it.
>>271029
>Creating digital art
So you are an 18 yr old student who hasn't discovered how boring and mundane most graphic design work is.
>>270811
So you want an opinion on your opinion? Cause this isn't a fact at all. Also nice b8 m8
>>270811
>Thinking Graphic Design is exclusively creating artwork
>Ignores the work that goes into understanding software, market research, communicating with clients, co-workers, and the presentation of the work, let alone all the principles of graphic design which need to be understood to be 'good'
Neck yourself bucko
>>270811
Mfw
>> tattoo artist
>> graphic designer
>>apparel designer
>>visual merchandiser
>>interior designer
>>i did it because i like it
>>architecture never crossed my mind
But ueah theres some weak links but for the most part you see who makes it to the end and theres mote strong work than shit work... Most of the time.
>>270811
Insanely heavy handed projecting.
>>271302
Quote me where I said that.
>>271342
>"Ignores the work that goes into understanding software, market research, communicating with clients, co-workers, and the presentation of the work, let alone all the principles of graphic design which need to be understood to be 'good'"
Quote what? He literally said the opposite, you said none of those things, in fact, that just adds credence to his point.
>Architects
U wot
But yeah graphic design is mostly people who want to be artists without putting any of the effort in getting good
ALL artists want to be graphic designers.
>>271440
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA AAAAHHHH
HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHA
HA
>>272182
Wasn't really funny... at all.
>>272199
It truly was.
That's funny, I've heard the opposite, that architects are people who aren't either smart enough to become a civil engineer, or creative enough to become a graphic designer. But I just think you can't generalize a whole group of people
>>270811
I do GD as a hobby.
Who said it anyone has to make a living off it it?
>>272550
Who the fuck would want to be a civil engineer over an architect when they can actually design ish?
>>270811
Is this like how architects are just failed engineers?
>>273655
architects are better than engineers
>>273772
"architects make it look pretty, engineers measure it and make sure it actually can be built"
that's from a friend of mine who is studying engineering, who got it from an architect
>>270811
Yeah that sux! Still love my job as a GD.
>>273780
Architects actually design the thing, engineers just check to make sure it's safe.
It's not like it's their creative ideas coming to life.
>>270815
>OP: Hey guys this is what I did? Isn't this what we all did? Please give opinions.
>You: This is retarded.
congrats
yeah sorry your design career is a failure OP
Well. GD is just a byproduct for me. I am a designer and mostly into UX/UI, Webdesign and Branding/CD/CI. But really, why not create something cool alongside the other tasks. I constantly learn new stuff, I can also cut videos and I am a photographer since 2006, way before I went to Uni or even knew I'd want to do this. But with every day I do this, using typography and creating stuff, I want to be able to illustrate things as well. I am not saying I am great or whatever but it's not like those disciplines are so far away from each other. You really need to study a lot and accept that it always means starting from scratch every time you approach something new. But at the same time, isnt that wonderful? Imagine working some shitty office job where you know everything from day 50 or 60 and then it never ever changes anymore. Creative work can be depressingly disappointing but it can be rewarding as well. It's really hard but really fun. I guess we all just don't like stupid repetitive office jobs where every day is the same.
So if you think you're a talentless hack, well, you are. Because talent means shit compared to constant training and experience. But you have to do it in order to learn it.
Although I would recommend going to good schools or having a mentor for each discipline. At least design is pretty theoretical at times, can be hard to learn on your own.
>>273878
Are you gay?
>tattoo artists and talented in the same sentence
>too stupid to be architects
dearest diary, there was kek to be had at the bait today
>>274304
No, but I am not 14 anymore either
>>270811
Ok, but here's the key to all things creative, that might not be high-level jobs n shit.
Get a part-time job. Unless you have kids you have to provide for-- You're young, you can live well off of a part-time job salary.
Do that, and on your free time, pursue whatever you're passionate about.
You have like 50% of a week to do things you love. I'd say that's pretty good.
If you then become successful, that's great!
But always have a job on the side- A steady one.
>>271028
holy shit, i havent seen autism levels this high since 2003
>>274621
Was that when Trump was born.
Everyone is different.
Some "designers" are terrible and think they're sick because they read some blogs and copy some trends.
Others are self taught.
Some went to school after failing at something else.
I'm an engineer, a developer, a writer, and a mechanic. I never failed at one thing to lead me into design; it's just part of everything I do.
>>270811
Man! You are a total moron..... Maybe your case but a lot of people like Design... That has nothing to do about wanting to be somebody else.
Now let's be as delusional as OP. Guys are just Guys because their parents could not afford a Girl.
>>275877
How come all the graphic design students I know act like children when other people take their studies seriously.
>They realise that pursuing art
Graphic designers know design != art
>>270811
People who get into GD because they want to make art are in the wrong career. GD is about guiding people to a desired action, not making art. Prettiness is a side effect of good technique.
>>271440
True, so many illustrators who equate pretty pictures with design. art != design
>>274468
>you can live well off of a part-time job salary
I live in Chicago. My rent alone is $800 / month.
>>276886
I'll fix it.
Architects are people too boring to be graphic designers. They looked the concept of design but are too autistic to actually make it work.
>>270811
I don't disagree with everything you wrote, but i'm not convinced on the architecture. Maybe 10 years ago and maybe it varies culturally, but id disregard the architecture bit for the UK at least.
in my case i wanted to do fine art of computer science.
Most of the people i know with an architecture angle are 30+, i don't see it in current undergrads.
>>270811
Huh, I've never met any designer that gave a shit about architecture though, for the art part I guess you are sorta right in some cases but it feels like you are just projecting too much buddy
by the same token, you could say that all architects are just too uneducated and stupid to have become civil engineers, who are just failed mechanical engineers, who are just failed aerospace engineers.
sometimes things aren't the same thing, but are different things
>>277161
I'm really unsure where about you're from, but here in the UK I consider an Architect to be a much more successful trade than Mechanical engineering.
Spent 2 years doing a 2D/3D AutoCad course, Also was a technical apprentice in architecture.
My dad is a mechanical engineer.
