for those of you working as a graphic designer, how often do you do letterhead or envelope or invitation design?
>>268273
Not once, everything just does email.
>>268280
how long have you been designing for?
my graphic design professor just makes it seem like if you can't design an envelope then you wont work in this field. and I really just suck at designing envelopes.

The only design I've done for envelopes is putting a small logo and the return address on the envelope. Anything more is just visual clutter.
Never, but then about 95% of our work is web or branding

>if you can't design an envelope then you wont work in this field
He's chatting shit, graphic design is a huge field and struggling a bit with print-based layouts shouldn't put you off.

thanks for the insight.
yeah, im pretty bad at print based layouts. I hate designing envelopes. business cards and letterheads I don't mind because there isnt as much room for error with document set up, but I tend to run into a lot of problems with envelopes. even when I use the proper dimensions it seems to come out like shit.

Worked for 4 years, have never designed a envelope, how ancient is your professor?
>>268341
idk his age but hes been designing for close to 30 something years so i guess 50s.
I wish I could just make logos for a living or work at an advertising firm. I'd much rather design magazine spreads and do photo manipulations than take on random general design projects. id like to conquer designing corporate identity but I need more practice under less stressful circumstances of doing it for a grade.

Typical schoolfag

Yeah, no shit. What else would I be if I'm still just a student?
>>268285
the reality is you should be able to design on anything
Giving students a design project that they don't do regularly and can be easily over thought sounds like a good project.
I work for an agency that handles a lot of pharmaceutical/telecom companies and doing envelopes is quite common. At least if we are doing letter packs.
