Because Photoshop is industry standard. I'd laugh my ass of, then shake my head if anyone sent me a Gimp file. Gimp doesn't even provide 1/3 of what Photoshop does, especially in image editing. You have to download an additional program just for RAW editing which is fucking ridiculous. It may be great in sketching and illustrating, but even Paintool Sai is better than Gimp in that.
>>
PS is PS. It's an industry standard as >>265343
said. It's interconnected with the rest of Adobe tools in one big ecosystem. If you're a pro, there's never been an argument. Even if you're not one, it costs only $10/month.

GIMP is GIMP. It's probably not better than Photoshop in any way. But it's free, lightweight, and has all of the essentials and more. It has some great plugins like G'MIC which enhance it greatly. If you're in college/poor, have a slow computer or simply enjoy free software, GIMP might be for you. In any case it's better than most other similar free apps and web tools, and certainly better than nothing.

But you get what you pay for. GIMP has been developing very slowly over the years. Most of it is pretty smooth, but some things are extremely clunky (its gradient editor is a nightmare, for example). It definitely is nowhere near as advanced as Photoshop is today.

It used to be a lifesaver back in 2012 when Photoshop CS6 cost $700. But today it's $10/month and also comes with Lightroom. Personally, I don't use it only because I'm not from US and the money is tight, also my Mac is not very fast.

But if you only use the essentials, the difference might not be that noticeable. GIMP has always been very similar to Photoshop albeit with some changes.

Bottom line: get Photoshop unless you really don't want to spend $10/month, have old computer or are on Linux.

Torrent Ps, otherwise, this >>265347 is a /thread

+1
Version 3.0 alpha already is out along with source code. These people are doing gods work
>>
>>265329
thus
>>
>>265400
i think PS CS3 is freeware now so no need for torrents
>>
>>265347
>paying a monthly fee to mostly use features that have existed for 20 years

there is literally no reason to use CC over a version like CS6
>>
True story. My school had me do assignments in Photoshop and I finished them in Gimp at home. Gimp is like manual and Photoshop is automatic. It is very possible to do most things and it got me through.

ps is much more proffesional

>>265347
GIMP is a software made by programmers for programmers. It's clumsy to use.

Photoshop all the way. But I mean for GIMP to be free it's pretty legit.
>>
>>265855
Photoshop is more like a 4x4 while Gimp is a hatchback, technically they can end up in the same place, but sometimes it's easier to get there with the right tool.
>>
For simple things GIMP is fine.
Obviously PS is for more advanced stuff.

It's like comparing Notepad++ and SublimeText IMO

Yeah, manually pushing the car instead of driving it.

If only I could run it on a shitty Samsung Tablet.

Kill me.
>>
>>267213
Why would you own a non-Windows tablet?
If it ain't running Win, it's not a tablet. It's a big phone.

I bought Manga Studio for like, forty dollars, brand new. It's great for illustrators like me and has many features PS has, but it also lacks in most actual photo editing capabilities (but it has some stuff that PS does not). It was built for drawing though so I can't complain.

Firealpaca is fucking amazing to me for being a free program. No, it can't edit photos worth a shit but the drawing toils tools are boss.

Photoshop is god though.
Gimp is shit IMO. I tried it several years ago and could not get into it.

Pic related, drew it in Manga Studio. I know it's shit no need to remind me
>>
>>267237
agreed manga studio is much better than photoshop for a lot of illustration things. it's brush engine is sooooo much fucking bettterrrrrrrr. I couldn't trade photoshop for it though because photoshop does so much stuff MS doesn't, like you said, especially for making final images. it's nice to have both.

inkscape is shit, gimp is gold.

gimp is more for basic edition, I mean, cropping, use brushes, all that stuff... Photoshop is almost for everything, you also have the tools of GIMP in PS, so... Whatever you going to use, both can't go wrong
