IMO, it's terrible. MNML DSGN strikes again. Throwing away all familiar details in a desperate attempt to look fresh.
It doesn't even look like a logo to me. Where's the top? Where's the bottom? These lines don't look like letters anymore. It could be "bp" or even "lyi".
It's not completely worthless to me because it's a halfway decent idea and its fits the dominating minimalism trend. It could work as an "alternative" kind of logo, but only in the context of the original.
That's real? It's shit.

OK, turns out the clickbait-heavy tech blogs have fooled me. According to The Verge, "HP says it'll be using this logo solely on its premium laptops." So the actual HP logo will remain the same for now. They have actually rejected this one in 2011 when they thought about rebranding.
Also, forgot: it looks like barbed wire.

It's fine. It'll look a lot better than the original on actual products. Not to mention circle encased logos are fucking gay looking.
>bp

Looking at the thumbnail sized pic on my iPhone, the new one is sexy as fuck.
Upon zooming in and it filling up my screen in full res HD detail? Looks like fucking garbage.
HP needs to tweak it a bit. Don't know how, but make it amazing in both small and large viewing modes.
>>264970
How are you reading lqj?
>>265005
It's really not that much of a stretch...
The new logo is perfection, and anyone who says otherwise does so because they're trash who don't know what the fuck they're talking about because they are inexperienced, talentless noobs themselves. Clear as day.

30 seconds and fucking MS paint.
The way they integrate this logo into their products is amazing, though. It looks so sexy on the back of a laptop or as the ink level on a printer.

that's not bad honestly. i feel like it looks better in the context of their product design. on its own it's pretty awkward.

the circular hp logo is objectively shite, anything is better than that one
I love it. It simple, without being derivative or forced
tldr 4chan hates everything
>>265102
wow so funny.
i'll tell you what is funny though. if anyone here posted this in the personal logos thread, you'd call it garbage. but a big company drops seven figures on a rebrand and the designer pukes this out at the last minute and you turn into a fanboy nuthugger.
>>264913
I do like the "new" logo, or at least the idea behind it...
Pretty cool. Though if I didn't know the context I wouldn't really know what it was supposed to be.

This actually looks better to me, although archaic.
The problem with HP's logo is that it has a very outdated font which would be hip in around '40s-'50s, but barely fits a modern company (see pic related)
But I think that's an internal conflict in HP itself, because printers and notebooks have different target auditories, which do intersect but not by much. In fact, they can be polar opposites—printers are for sedentary work, office, more conservative environment, while notebooks are meant more for mobile, personal use, and for somewhat younger, progressive auditory.
You'd be hard pressed to find a font that fits both of these groups—the best way would be perhaps to go with something neutral.

This shit is good.. simple shapes stick with you more and you all know what the fuck it is, even without knowing the logo's evolution.. (though good point about it possibly being "bp" instead.. I dig it.

How is that even the logo? Only at a very specific ink level combination is it the same, it's just 4 bars there.
>>264913
unreadable
Logo system > logo, you fucking retards. Logo is just one part of the branding, wether the logo is legible or is using basic shapes like other brands doesn't really matter because what gives it the power is branding. If you have shit corporate identity as whole beautiful logo won't save your brand.
