First of all, there too much details.
Do you know what minimalist is?

It's basically the for-front of modern design, using little to no detail to create a visually stunning logo. [3]

If you need more insight, see half the posts on this board, otherwise here's an example of your improved logo.
>pic related

Using basic geometries shape I outline the face of the lizigator and using basic, sans-serif type (that means no spikey hard line). Next time do not try too hard and make a minimal logos.
>>
Depends on what it is and how you are going to use it.

As a corporate logo it sucks ass.

As a clothing brand it's ok. Would try to simplify the colors and make the mark and type work separately to ensure more options when it comes to clothing.
>>
>>260885
Wow, not even sure if trolling

Guess that says more about the state of /gd/ than anything.
>>
>>260889
I was thinking boots or something, I dunno I just picked a random name, setting it up with a mascot I was def not going for corporate professionalism. You are dead on with simplifying the mascot, I need to dial in how I sketch to reduce color, it's hard man.

I feel like the font needs work too, I seriously about to buy books on hand lettering. Is it as shit as it feels?

>>260890
Haha dude it's a clever and funny ruse, satire if you will. I mean I hope it is.

Here's the foundation to the font, something is going wrong, not sure how to explain it.
>>
>>260892
>>260893
Seems like you are trying to force the flow too much. The 'o' comes out looking shitty when you do that, and with the large swoshes that don't really lead anywhere it just makes it look meh..

You do indeed need to get a handle on your lettering, and go back to basics on how they fit together, but you are doing decent work at least in trying to scetch it out and trying out variations. That's more than can be said about most people on /gd/ these days.
>>
>>260898

Yeah I really wanted to work on a script font, this was probably the wrong project to do so on, shit time to start over or drop the exercise. Thanks for being analytical and not condescending dude.
>>
>>260878
The alligator has too many details, and the line width is too narrow. Try fattening the lines and de-complicating that fucker! :)

All of those mascots are terrible. If that's what you're using as your basis, then stop and never try to better yourself through research.

Pic related of a modern sport mascot.
>>
The highlights look really bad. You should consider deleting most of them or maybe you could try another color. But i would recommend getting rid of them.
The gum-tooth lines look kinda weird, maybe you could thicken them a bit? Not sure.
It does have a certain charm, though!
>>
>>260885
thats great anon! get all the bad ideas out of the way.
>>
Get rid of the highlights or make them shadows instead. Probably the former.
>>
>>261303
i was just looking at this guy's work he had made tons of mascots.

Those are stylish but... man, they seem a bit too by-the-numbers for my taste. I've always liked European football logos more...
>>
>>260885
I agree, but this looks like shit
>>
>>261281
You dont have idea of what talent is
>>
>>261381
Sure, but euro football logos generally aren't mascot-heavy.
>>
>>260878
It looks too complex. If you look at lots of other mascot logos.. pretty much all in fact... they're quite simple. They only really have basic shapes. They also have pretty easy to read text. Sports fans don't care about what obscure font you use thats interesting only to gd for reasons only gd knows.
>>
>>261350
Agree. Your highlights make no sense. Light typically comes from above. You put your highlights where there should be shadows, and in some places for no reason at all.

The amount of detail is good for a children's illustration, but not for a logo because when you stand back it just looks weird and muddled. Logos are meant to be recognizable, even wen fairly small.
>>
>>260878
What IS this for, actually? I think a lot of us assume its a sports team logo, but you know what they say about assumptions...
>>
>>261555

Shoes or clothing, something like that.

Ok, OP here.

Yeah, the Gator Made concept was for like rugged cloths or shoes, ssomething like a Dickie's brand, it was not sports related, apologies for not making that more clear in the OP. But in my defense Gator Made would be the weirdest sports team name ever.

Anyway since the thread turned to sports team mascots, I figured I'd take a stab at it.

This looks a lot better than your initial concept, but it has no dynamism at all. If you're going for a sports team or a rugged clothes brand, I'd suggest making it look more active.

Even the Lacoste logo has a little bit of fluidity to it.
>>
>>261367
notice his shape work and contrasting colours, dont blend with sports logos thats for illustrations (even then when I do my illustrations I aim to use contrasting colours)

>>
>>262132
The last one. Powerfull
>>
>>262132
Bottom right looks great! As others have said, though, it needs a little dynamism. The gator looks like he's asleep. Maybe you can shift gears to a Sleepy Gator brand?
>>
>>262132
You can give a evil eye.
>>
>>262018
seems a bit too complacent for a sports team mascot
>>
>>260878
Okay just to start, that graphic is not good. The words and the illustration don't mesh. The anatomy on the the alligator is all wrong. The details do not work
>>262018
This is much better not only anatomically, but as a graphic element. BUT it's boring and static and it does look a lot like Broncos/generic sportsball team ripoff instead of having a unique look.

The script has the 'o' in cursive wrong, so at a glace it looks like it says "GATER" or "GATAR". In script/cursive, the tail on the 'o' doesn't drop down but comes off the top of the 'o' so it won't be mistaken for a letter with a tail, like an a or e.

>>262132
man if you want to make the broncos logo that bad just go work for them instead. Gator made is a much better name for a clothing brand than this. It's another sports team name.

It's rushed and simple and very sloppy, but I fixed the script and did a quick image in your original color scheme. It's not good or done by any means, but it's far more appropriate for a clothing brand and it's not ripping off the Broncos logo.

appreciate the feed back, fwiw the GATORs stuff is supposed to be a sports team, RE: >>262018

To everyone else, thanks for the feedback, I skewed the mascot to try and get it a bit more dynamic, added a bolder outline for viewing at a distance, and switched out the chinese-y sad/tired eye for a japanese-y angry eye.
>>
>>262503
Love it. Still lacks some of the aggressive flow most sportsteams have going, but it looks really Good. Especially the font.
>>
>>262503
Looking better all the time, bud. Might I suggest opening the gator's mouth so he can bare his teeth a little? Would help him look more aggressive. Loving the font.
>>
>>262503
Font is great but I'd really redo the alligator. It looks strange and not reptilian

I totally see what you guys mean, originally I did have his mouth open a bit, which I think would have helped make him look more aggressive, but the serendipitous process lead me to closed mouth, and alas at this point I'm content enough to move on.

>>262536
Maybe I've been looking at it too long, but I'm not seeing that, either way I think I'm going to call this project.

And even though I moved on from the gator, mascot mode is still in full force. Here's a concept I got in motion today, I'm going with NOTORIOUS GOBLINS or GOBLINS and it's for hockey.

Don't rape me too hard...

not too bad but i don't like how clean it looks. have you tried changing the brushes to the artistic ones? it could give it a more organic-natural look.
>>
>>262582
With the shadows there's too much colour variation. If you just google sport team logos you can see that they limit themselves to 3-5 colours (The team jersey colours plus black/white).

I can instantly tell that your crocodile design is a sports logo, because a) it uses a very limited colour scheme and b) it's very dynamic.

Dont really know how you can do that with that goblin design if you insist on a shadow.
>>
>>262586
This pretty much.
Too many colors

>>
>>262663
Alright, that makes sense. Try to aim for 4 colours then.
>>
>>261381
European football logos are crests, not mascot logos. Shit, you might as well be talking about university letter logos or baseball cap logos.
>>
>>262628
You're fucking stupid
>>

Great shit man, good weight to that bottom right. Definitely has the feel of robustness and stability that goes with work boots.
