What's the difference between a vector and others?

Vectors can scale to any size without loss of quality

Vector are mathematical creation. "The area between these points must be this color".

Bitmap is a grid. "The pixel at A1 is black, A2 is black, A3 is grey, etc"

As suck vectors can be scaled up (ie, to cover a plane or building) or down (an icon) without any issues.

Scaling up the bitmaps will result in a pixelated look (the squares get bigger) and scalling down will loose details and sharpess (the squares only get so small, afterward the software removes some of them).

Both are good, but they have different strenght and applications.
