It's not artificial intelligence in the normal sense of the word. It's just executives and producers who make up some rules and the story is written based on the reaction of the market analysis. It's only "artificial intelligence" because no real intelligence is involved.

In due time, we'll have fully automated story writing for the masses and even movies will be entirely machine-made. "True" creative writing of "genius" won't be replaced because that's not what AI does. AI can only recognize patterns and replicate them to a T. Consumer media is very cut-and-paste, so it's not a herculean task.
Classics however aren't just good stories, they hold more weight for whatever reasons and I don't see AI figuring those out anytime in the near century.
