I'm about to install /g/entoo, what should I take care of?
Used Debian, Fedora & Qubes OS before.

Try Solus first.

fast hardware, something to read the handbook from, some entertainment while compiling?
Buy a 1950X so you can compile Gentoo very fast at incredible hihg speed

Following the guide to a t is good, but sometimes you will have to think for yourself. (not often, but it happens)
Get a phone or a second PC to read the guide.
Installing gentoo doesnt take very long, even on non-up-to-date hardware, it's the post install emerging that takes ages, so don't worry about it.

Welcome brother. Report back with success and your gift basket will be in the post.

Hen too user here. You should definitely read the article about USE flags and portage + it's features before installing your system. I did my portage configuration wrong in the beginning and had to recompile the whole system multiple times to fix it

no need. Even systemrescuecd has a graphical mode and a web browser. It's also perfectly fine to use Ubuntu or any other 'heavier' live distro for the install phase. No reason to limit yourself to installing in a plain VT
>>62475135
get a linux-hardened kernel
>>62476556
hardened-sources is dead because grsecurity devs are faggots
https://www.gentoo.org/news/2017/08/19/hardened-sources-removal.html

Isn't hardened-sources still there? I thought gentoo only stopped officially supporting it.
