I have my backups in a local HDD and a home server.
I want to store my files in a web cloud in case my house burns down.
Which one should I trust?
>inb4 Dropbox or OneDrive
No
>mega

How do I encrypt it?
why not just get a VPS? SSD-based ones without much storage space are more fashionable these days, but it's easy to find HDD-backed ones that'll give you a few hundred gigs for not much money. and then in addition to storing your backups it can do whatever else you might want to do with a Linux box.

If pay:

If free

install gentoo

Why don't you back up to your friends server? We do that so we have 2 backups, one on site and one off site in case mother nature want's to fuck my house

>Friends
You're on the wrong website
Friendly Reminder that encrypting files for cloud storage ONLY works if you have to supply both a password and a reasonably complex keystring like used in Freepass. Else a cloud service provider could turn off brute force login protection and get your password and all your data.
Mega because 50GB free and on browser encryption.

Is this legit? I'm giving it a try

Just find a derelict building somewhere and keep an encrypted SSD in said building. Keep the encryption key on a piece of paper or something that's on you at all times

Backblaze B2.
How secure is it to buy a domain and store my files somewhere in the website?
