I bought a 5s on release and I think it was worth, I still use it and has served me well.

I'm not so sure about the new ones (even the SE), but I don't think an Android phone is any better to be honest.

I bought a launch iPhone 6S plus two years ago. Recently changed the battery myself. I'm keeping it until it dies and given the quality it should last a good while. So in this case it was worth the premium.
