Just bought this case to prepare for upgrading. It was the most decent looking one I could find with all these ridiculous looking gaming shit they are putting out now. Next upgrade is a GTX 1070 and a new monitor.

This guy here, need help. Do I keep the EVGA powerlink or not? It was only $9 so I don't care if I ditch it. It's nice redirecting the cables since the only gpu cable I have is a split Y cable so the rest hangs down as you can see in this pic
>>
>>62469550
I'm between EVGA 1070 and MSI Gaming X. From what I heard the EVGA is pretty loud and has coil whine, does yours have it? EVGA has good costumer support, but the MSI one is inaudible, which is just as important for me as performance.

>>62469567
Probably for as long as they are working. Once something fails I'll buy a new combo. Since they're running literally everything with no problems I'll keep them. Only thing that is really struggling to keep up is the 460, but I'll buy a 1070 next month. I'll also get another 4GB stick, so that'll be a triple channel 12GB.
Also, can you answer the question I've made above about EVGA's fans? I've heard from a lot of people they're pretty loud, and that they have absurd coil whine.
>>
>>62469666
>Also, can you answer the question I've made above about EVGA's fans? I've heard from a lot of people they're pretty loud, and that they have absurd coil whine

That's hard to answer (I'm the guy with the evga 1080 btw). When I first got it, there were no issues. About 3 months in my card started running very hot (like 80+C) in normal gaming, and I considered RMA'ing it. I decided to replace the thermal paste first since that doesn't void EVGA warranty, and replaced it with gelid ec - extreme. Since then I have barely been getting above 65C and love it. So I think there may be quality control issues with their thermal paste, but under load it's not any louder than other 2 fan models I've seen. And from what I've seen, EVGA has amazing customer service. So although my card hasn't been perfect, I would purchase from them again
>>
>>62469666
I've never heard it whine.
>>
>>62469747
That's exactly the same as I've heard from other people. The cards got hot after a while and so did the fans become louder, and then came the coil whine. But as far as I remember these people didn't change the thermal paste, or they did but didn't notice any difference. Thanks for sharing your experience. Right now MSI's Gaming X is about 30 USD cheaper than EVGAs, at least in my country, so as long as it's cheaper I'll buy it even though I've always liked EVGA more, but their custom fans really suck. You should hear my 460 fans at full load, I can hear it with my headphones on, and from two rooms apart from mine as well, it's awful.

>>62469775
That's good. There was a lot of people complaining about it, at least when EVGAs SC and FTW cards came out.

Yeah this board is way to liberal with the volts at 1.384V [AUTO] for mine, does 4.4ghz stock but 1 core can freeze it, I know you can bump the voltage and overclock the tits off it but that's more heat.

Pretty good board imo.

Custom cables, yes or no? I tried zip tying the pcie but it kept falling off. Also, should I get some better fans? The corsair quiet edition fans ironically get a little loud under high rpm because they're struggling to push much air. The led also gets drowned out by my case led.
>>
>>62474454
Corsair fans are shit.
Noctua NF-F12 (or A14 if you want 140mm) or Akasa AK-FN059 (or AK-FN063 if you want 140mm) if you don't mind the colors.
>>
>>62474513
Yeah I'd prefer them to color match. Those Aska fans would look real good with a Zotac gpu and a yellow theme btw.
>>
>>62474513
>corsair is shit
>noctua f12 doesn't sound like a jet engine
>akasa isn't shit
Corsairs ML series 120mm fans are one the best there are right now, the rest of their line up is mediocre at best. Yeah, they cost a lot, but does Noctua. As for 140mm is probably a toss up between Thermalight (TY-143 for higher performance, TY-147 for silent operation) and Phanteks F140MP/SP.
>>
>>62475206
Can't buy the corsair fans, since they don't sit against my shrouds/standoffs around the entire frame. Those ML fans seem very nice though.
>>
>>62475243
If you need 120mm square frame fans for radiators you could checkout Darkside Gentle Typhoons or EK Vardars.

>>62475591
Im not adding a rad, with my current setup one rad feeds hot air into the other. after blocks Im going to move to a bigger case like a cooler master cosmos or a 900D. Both of those cases have the ability to mount radiators in a way that the air flow from one does not mix with the other.

My protip? knowing and planning. what you are in for. There is a lot of work maintaining a custom loop. Hard tubing is a little less of a hassle depending on your fluid. Soft tubing imo is a lot "safer". With compression fittings and soft tubing ive never had a fitting leak but, they do deteriorate over time. I set aside a day every three months where i clean my loop, flush it with DISTILLED water and white distilled vinegar , NO TAP WATER EVER!!! You need a whole day to clean, its a chore.

On the planning side, stuff like make sure all your fittings are using the same threads, the most common is G1/4. Make sure your fittings are for the same hose size , 1/2"OD. 3/4" ID,
OD = Outer diameter, ID inner. pretty much make sure you match sizes. A big thing is and I messed this up my first time is having a mixed metal loop. Its not bad to have a mix metal loop but some metal don't play well. Try to stick to copper and Nickel, they are fine to have in the same loop.

For fluid I use the EKoolent premix but you can use DISTILLED water, NO MINERALS!! if you use distilled water its smart use use a biocide like PT nuke or a silver Kill coil. they also make anti corrosives.

Water cooling is a chore and a Hobby.

I have my own custom water already, build the case myself (and never finished, that's why it looks awful, but functionality is there) pic related

for what it's worth I do agree with you on the whole
I prefer to use distilled water with biocide tho, all pre-made cooling liquids I've used in the past left residue after a while

I'll get another stick of RAM, but I'm fine with the CPU. It won't bottleneck the GTX 1070, so there's no reason to buy a xeon atm.

>>62472923
If I were to buy one, that would be it. It's even cheaper than that right now in my country.

>>62476994
It's a 460, but yeah, it gets really hot. On ambient 25c it easily goes past 85c on full load, when it's really hot, about 33c it goes up to about 93c. Also, the fans are jet turbines, I can hear them from two rooms away from mine when they are at 100%.
>>
>>62469490
I have that same case. Where do you have your HDDs installed? Mine are in the HDD drawers but they make too much vibration noise.
>>
>>62471896
Next you're gonna tell me Disney characters are also weeb.
>>
>>62477220
Mine are in the drawers too, but I haven't noticed any vibration from them. And they looked very firm when I put them there, as it was a very tight fit. You can also put them on the CD drive slots too if you like, there you can use screws if you're not comfortable about the possible vibration on the drawers.
Check out this video, it shows where you can put SSDs and HDDs.
https://youtu.be/SDNctFMqw5U
>>
>>62477347
Thanks famalam.
I'm talking about 3.5" disks though. I don't think I can put them on the CD drive slots.
