Richard Stallman recommends these distros, why are you not using one, /g/?

>>
>>62464229
Because I'm not that autistic enough
>>
because he's such a fucking retarded faggot that he can't even install linux on his own. his doctoral degrees are all honorary (read: he got them for giving a talk or doing something else not commensurate with earning a doctoral degree), and he has emotional meltdowns at the drop of a hat.
>>
>>62464229
GuixSD is the only good one(read: the only one that isn't abandonware).
>>
Trisquel is comfy, desu.
>>
I need a distro that stably implements the latest kernel b/c I'm passing through a GPU to a windows VM on Ryzen. So, I'm basically stuck on fedora. Arch is doable, but lacks stability.
>>
>>62464296
>Arch is doable, but lacks stability
When will this meme die? I have very few problems with the packages in Arch and the times I do it's because I'm using testing repositories.
>>
>>62464229
because muh codecs and Microsoft fonts that make libreoffice fully compatible with Word
>>
That's for stupid people.
Arch + Linux-libre is what smart people use.

GuixSD is VERY tempting. It's very compelling from a technical perspective (unlike the rest of those, which are only compelling from a licensing perspective.)
>>
>>62464229
I am using Parabola tho
>>
>>62464229
I use Trisquel
>>
>Why is package X missing, even though it's available in Arch?
>Since Parabola follows the GNU FSDG we don't include proprietary software and you can't get it from official repositories.
heh, 100% control!
>>
Because I don't worship mememan and his autism.
>>
>>62466720
Wow, that's really disrespectful.
>>
>>62464229
Trisqel is nice, didn't like my laptop wireless card I think, so I had to hard-line to Internet which isn't bad, but I suppose that similar compatability problems limit the user base.
>>
>>62464267
How is Parabola abandonware. It's literally Arch with the non-free packages filtered out.
>>
the list is too autistic for me 2bh, I use Debian and the only reason it doesn't make the list is because there's an official nonfree repo that's easy to find and add
>>
>>62464951
It's backdoored to hell, sorry to say
>>
>>62464491
>when will everyone have the exact same experiences as me
retard
>>
>>62464491
I run arch on my laptop and it's stable enough, but the nature of rolling release vs planned cycles is such that it is more prone to instability - not something I want for desktop use.
>>
Why is there no GNU's own distro?
>>
>>62469140
There were, until the programming penguin came around.
>>
>>62464284
This. I have been running tris for months and everything has been sorted out.

I can't figure out how to create a bootable drive with an ISO on it though... At the tail end of the process I get a pop up about GNU something in compatable and then it cancels the process. I am about to switch to something without systemD because of this...

Unetbootin won't download for some reason or I would just use that.

>Any advice would be wonderful
>>
B-but... g-gentoo... i-install it...?
>>
>>62464229

I don't use Linux to avoid proprietary software, I use it to avoid Windows.

Who cares whether Stallman recommended them. Given that he can't install Linux himself, I find it hard to take his recommendation. You use an OS based on what it can do, not whether it agrees with the political viewpoint of an aging circus clown named RIchard.

Whew. That being said, I have been looking at Trisquel. Anyone here care to share any pro/con experiences with it?

Nearly as similar as Arch except for a few nonfree packages removed and a package named your-freedom that conflicts with most nonfree packages in AUR. I like it. If you want wi-fi make sure you flash coreboot & get an Atheros wifi card.

kek

Yeah that seems like a lot of work for wifi honestly. I'd consider it if I already had an Atheros card

>>
>>62464229
Because current laptop needs proprietary drivers and it's not time to replace it yet.

But even if it were, thinkpads aren't that practical for normies like me. It's much easier to install easy distros than it is to libreboot, etc. Plus, you'd probably have to spend time researching the right hardware because no one bothered to make it as easy as `lshw --isnonfree`

>>
>>62464229
GuixSD is really nice, but not quite ready yet.

>>62470824
Not "better", GuixSD specifically does not see itself in competition with NixOS, it's an alternative and libre.
Guix follows the same base function as Nix in terms of functional package management, but uses Scheme (Lisp).

It's also SystemBloat free.
