Why the fuck is there no usable Android phone with a 4"-ish screen?

The iPhone SE would be ideal size-wise, but I'd like an Android. And *there.are.none.whatsoever*.
>>
>>62463399
Why would you want such a small phone? There's a reason they don't make them
>>
asked in previous thread, but only got one reply.

t-moble, usa.
~300usd budget
currently looking at honor 6x, and blu vivo 8 (got told to avoid blu)

also looking at honor 8, and le pro 3.

any other suggestions? also any expected budget phones to be released soon that it would be worth waiting for?
>>
>>62463430
I've got small hands.
I've got small pockets.
I want a nimble phone that's easy to use single-handedly and fits into pockets without forcing it.
I bike everywhere, big phones are just in the way, difficult to handle while on the road.
...etc etc.

I had a Nokia C6-01 back in the day, it was 3.2" and bloody ideal. But I'd settle for 4". That's still a lot better than what's available. :/

BLU has lied to their customers in the past and got caught again in regards to Chinese spyware in their phones, also I've experienced issues with my BLOX2 that couldn't be replicated on any other phone and they refused to acknowledge it, they're a headache to deal with, have shit specs, always a trade-off somewhere, and just not worth the price

there are literally only 3 non-shit android models of this size on the market, two of them are from Sony.

Same. Almost every phone now is 5.5 and above. I was holding out for the G5s plus instead of the previous model but they gave it a 5.5 screen instead of the 5.2 screen and now I don't know if I still want it...
>>
>>62464995
As long as they're fitting bigger screens into smaller bodies, they're fine imo. The first time I held an S8 (with a case) it actually felt as comfortable to hold as my iPhone 7. The G6 felt the same. The V30 is a bit bigger but hopefully not insanely big like a Nexus 6 or 6P
>>
>>62465174
The battery in YP2 is glued, hovewer, if u have heat gun - it's not hard to replace it. Hard work is to connect fucking back screen after you've changed battery - it have two wires (one for screen itself and one for two antennas - Qi and NFC.

How important is rooting your phone?
The phone I'm thinking of getting doesn't really benefit from custom roms as it loses one of the key features of the phone and is unable to revert back to stock rom, rooting is also a real hassle.

I'm thinking of moving off of Fi and onto T-Mobile, or something similar. As much as I love the idea of Fi's "pay as you go", there's just too many downsides.

If I switch to T-Mobile, what phone should I get? I'm looking for a great midrange phone, maybe a moto G5

if my motorola droid 3 with one of first dual-cores in smartphones and 512mb of ram was able to run gta3/psx/light psp games, eight small-core sd625 should have more than enough juice to bring me some fun on boring lectures. although if you have a good example of game/emu where sd625 isn't enough, i'd love to hear about it

The same reason they don't make them is the same reason why people watch reaction videos on youtube, because most people aren't stupid and don't actually care about stuff. The main smartphone market wants phones that look cool, that are shiny, ect. Actual performance isn't something that people who buy smartphones actually cares about.

You know why smaller phones are great? Because you can use them with a friggin single hand. Sure typing might be harder, but other than that there are literally no downsides to a phone being smaller.

There is also a reason why apple still makes a small phone, because they actually build their shit for quality, and they know that there are people out there who don't give a fuck about flashy 6" 4k screens, and that some people really care more about convenience, battery life, and practicality.

I am far from the biggest fan of IOS, its really stupid, unintuitive, and conventions from one stock app differ from the next, which is pretty cancer on a phone with only a home button. What apple does get right though is hardware. The iphones battery life is beyond compare, the camera is better than 90% of all other phones on the market, the screen has probably the best color reproduction out there despite not being current gen, and so on. Apple knows that there are people out there who like small phones, and the SE is the only small phone in the world that is even comparable to the flagships. All other android small phones are hot garbage in comparison and apple pretty much just has a monopoly on the market.

Also small phones are never going to die either, the SE will probably get phased out in the next 5 years even if its not called the "SE" at that point. But the small phone will 100% live on, just in the smart watch market. I wouldn't be surprised as the last small phones die off, if smart watches start getting bigger and bigger. I mean shit apple is already putting cellular in their watch.

The regular X Compact is waterproof, rated at ip68, but It was not marketed this way. This is because the most expensive part of making it waterproof is in fact the warranty of getting it waterproof. Sony have a much easier time managing the warranty in Japan only rather then global.

Honestly if you're going to put a case on the S8 the edges are a nonissue. Most of the bigger ones have lips that go over the sides but angle inward to not block the display. And the S8 does have a physical home button sort of. It's beneath the display. You can actually hide the bottom bar to show up when you swipe up, but you can still firm press where the home button is to go home.

Get an XZ1 Compact or bust. It should actually garner decent long term support with Sony's commitment to Project Treble and Oreo. That alone is worth its weight in gold as well since most phones don't upgrade whole number versions often, and when they do it's not well. Hopefully Treble will be a reasonable solution to that.

What was the point of Oreo? I updated from the Pixel XL release build and haven't found anything other than cosmetic changes and moving of buttons. Had to dim the menus, way to much glaring white.
>>
>>62474981
I'm not the first to say it but Oreo should have been 7.7 in the same way KitKat was 4.4. It has basically nothing new as and no flagahip feature as far as I can tell. Nougat at least gave us split screen and double tap to switch app (which I use a fair bit)

Batteries get old, they'll only do so many cycles before capacity is lost. The more deep cycles the quicker that gets lost. However only shallow cycles will quicken their decline. The biggest killer though by far is overcharging.
>>
>>62475305
So what are the guidelines for charging your phone optimally?
>>
>>62475305
>The biggest killer though by far is overcharging
Wrong, heat is
>>
>>62475351
There is no right way. However these things help, charge it till it's full. Try not to leave it on the charger, overnight is ok. If the phone is hot, let it cool and wait to charge it once it cools. A deep cycle ~20% once a week is ok.

>>62475374
Li-Ion are far more resilient to heat than overcharging. Heat isn't great and will cause the battery to expand with time but overcharging can kill a battery on the first time if left long enough.

Not many which is good.
>Most of the power is being used from the wall anyways
If the charge circuit is designed properly it should only use power from the wall when plugged it. This isn't always the case though.

>>62475425
Take the battery out and run the laptop off the AC adapter if you are not going anywhere for a few days. A few hours plugged in with a full battery isn't going to hurt the battery as the laptop will not charge the cells.

Anyone else absolutely fucking hate glass back phones? Not only does it basically require a case on it 24/7 because it's a slippery fingerprint and scratch magnet, but it also looks cheap and ridiculously generic. Up until now I was glad that Apple didn't buy into the wireless meme but now that they did the phones look disgusting. And the colors on the back are weak as fuck. They threw away one of the key features of their phones - the unique design in favor of a gimmick. I really hope they launch another SE phone because that's the only thing I'd upgrade my 7 to.

Why would someone remove the headphone jack, before releasing a value phone?

Best option with headphone jack?

XZ1 is a downgrade from the XZ Premium though

Maybe it's just inaccurate stats due to fast charging? I charged it before the night and unplugged it, it dropped by 5% at morningm but then it leveled out. And I still got 9h SOT.

>>62479071
You don't "get used to" it - you don't notice it until you start looking for it. It's not even a "can't unsee" type of thing.

retard here, does going from a four year old phone to a relatively new one get me a better experience in music listening? I know battery life and performance are a given
>>
>>62479202
>in music listening
You could get a phone from 2007 and not notice a difference.

Has any of you changed the battery on this phone ? iFixit says it's almost impossible to do and have a clean result
>>
>>62479817
I have changed it and screen also and it's not impossible. For first time it takes around 1 hour.
