Bull trap
>>
>>62452959

I've been wondering what component would fail in a card that has been running nonstop for a year, and it has to be the capacitors. The silicon die can potentially run forever, and the shoddy BGA manufacturing process of 2009-ish that caused the "baking your card/laptop motherboard in the oven" trend has already been fixed.

Maybe "RX480 100% RECAPPED L@@K" will be a common sight on eBay.
>>
I recently bought a 1080 Ti used on eBay, how high are the chances that it was a miner card?

Price was OK but I gambled with the possibility that the card was not that good for mining.
>>
>>62457418
If it dies without warning after a month of mediocre usage it was baked miner card.

t.I got burned with a 480GTX
>>
>>62457454
Hopefully it doesn't come to that, I'm betting on a longshot that if anything bad happens eVGA warranty covers it but I doubt that.
>>
>>62457546
Mine was also EVGA.
They somehow lost the serial number of the card and it wasn't in their DB.
Very strange huh.
>>
>>62452901
lol were you even around the first time bitcoin became a meme?
it rose from $5 to $1000 in a few months, and sunk to sub $500 when the bubble burst.
>>
>>62452234
>>not the "currency" backed by nothing but the power of imagination

The US dollar is backed by the US military
>>
>>62457418
anyone properly mining is undervolting the card and running it cooler than normal and at a steady temperature. Your average gamer puts more stress on a GPU than a miner does.

The only actual problem to worry about are the fans failing. It's the only mechanical part subject to wear and tear. The rest of it is solid state it doesn't get fucked by being turned on all the time.
>>
Is mining on a 280x still profitable?
>>
>>62449037
For real cheap might be good if your GPU dies and meanwhile get some economies for a GTX 1080ti water-cooled.
>>
>>62457258
Condensers, easy to replace, fans (fuse) check also the main points where welds might be problematic. I used the oven 5 times for the 8800 GTX problem. died in 2015. Also, apply new thermal paste Ang get a water-cooled block
>>
>>62457832
Replacement fans/blocks are under 30$, same for water-cooled blocks
>>
>>62457809

And the only reason it rose to 1000$ in the first place was becauce China entered the market lol

>>62457922
>Condensers

...spot the non-british european

I doubt you may even need to check the main ports, anyone who used the card for mining would've left them empty. Depending on how cheap they are it might be a bargain

>>
>>62458669
Dude was a little clueless but there's so many middle aged (40 - 55) people recently trying to get into mining. Also a fair few rich Chinese idiots buying dual 1080ti setups for mining. Some were asking me why there PC wouldn't turn on, they didn't realise you need to bridge the mobos power pins if you you don't have an io front panel connected. They also kept the mobo (with CPU and cooler) in the anti static bag...

>>
>>62459408

>>
>>62459717
>And the dollar is backed by thin air.
Dollar is backed by the fact that it's the only currency you can pay US taxes with. Not the same as being backed by precious metals, but it does mean that it will always have SOME worth.
>>
>>62459906
There is no material value behind it.
Euro,Yen,whatever chinks use and other nations all have gold reserves on which they base the value on the paper money.
What US is doing should be criminal they are lucky that they have so much military power they can get away with it.
>>
>>62459717
>>62459957
The whole world uses the USD, though. No one is going to use a currency that fluctuates 50% in a day
>>
>>62459957
>Euro,Yen,whatever chinks use and other nations all have gold reserves on which they base the value on the paper money.
None of the major currencies are backed by precious metals.
>>
>>62459957
>Euro,Yen,whatever chinks use and other nations all have gold reserves on which they base the value on the paper money.
No, they have reserves but it's not linked to their fiat currencies in any way.
>>
The value of gold is literally exactly as imaginary as the value of bitcoin.
>but it's shiny!
A lot of things are shiny, mirrors and chromed rocks aren't more valuable than gold are they?
The thing that gives both btc and gold their value is limited supply and ease of storage/transfer. Btc wins hands down in all these respects.
>>
>>62460049
The difference is that gold actually has uses(and would have even more of them if it wasn't so overvalued). Shit, pretty much anything you can use lead for, gold would be even better. And that's not even taking into account everything else about it, such as resistance to corrosion, electrical conductivity, etc.
>>
>>62460049
You can't make a dildo out of bitcoin
>>
>>62460049
Bitcoin showed that is vulnerable to all exploits like regular currency even in early infancy.
Speculation,storage problems,creating artificial shortages,manipulation of value ect.
The thing is digital and thats about the only advantage of it.
>>
>>62460081
>The difference is that gold actually has uses
No, this is 100% a bullshit argument. If gold were valued solely by the uses it has it would be just 0.001% of its current price.
