Right, while other browsers aren't bound to OS updates they can freely implement things as they desire. You want edge to support some new standard? At earliest you have to wait until next milestone update.
Plus, when they actually decouple Edge from the OS, that effectively means there's no excuse to keeping alternate browsers from the windows store.
It's a win-win and something they should be focusing on immensely but I feel none of that is going to come to fruition until 2019 when market data/OEMs shows people want another windows version or whatever.

I am currently using Edge on Insider preview.
WebM on 4chan supported 3 month ago.
No problem so far.
And it eat less CPU than firefox when watching twitch.

A few months ago there were talks of Edge being separated from W10 in the upcoming Fall Update.
I wonder if Microsoft is going to follow through with those plans or if they're to wait at least 6 more months.
Either way it needs to happen soon or Edge is going to keep losing relevance.
