if any given phone has about 3 years of comfortable life in it after it launches until the software of the day becomes too demanding, then the iphone 7 will feel dated in 2 years rather than 3 with the iphone 8.

whether the number is 3 or 5 or whatever, it's probably safe to bet that the number is the same for all of the iphones in the past few years, so i'd just be saving a hundred or so dollars only to intend to replace the phone a year sooner

the problem is that reviews won't be out until the phone has launched, by which point the wait time for an iPhone x will probably be weeks or even months.
