The last watch you ever own for a whole year until you throw it out and buy the new model? I can at least understand any other valid argument in favor of smart watches over mechanical watches, but what the fuck are these people smoking?
>>
>>62414711
That is way too big for you, wristlet
>>
>>62415484
My favourite thing about the apple watch is they improve every part of it by a little, except the battery life. The latest release was filled with "and this saves battery life" only to end saying it's the same battery life as the last model.
>>
>>62415493
The angle makes it look too big.
>>
>>62415724
No, it really is too big. Even with that angle it swallows your wrist.
>>
>>62415724
Angle doesn't change the fact the lugs overhang your wrist. Think about how the lugs and your wrist are effectively on the same plain in that picture and that means camera distortion is minimal if not non-existent.

this is honestly the best advice anyone can take. I see idiots on here with 15 Seiko including vintage ones that they send to get serviced directly after purchase. Save your money and buy good watches. If you wont have 5 grand for at least 5 years get one 200 dollar watch now and wait.
>>
Anyone ordered from seiyajapan before?
>>
>>62417898
Yes, just a buckle though.
>>
>>62417840
Are you just shitposting or does it not occur to you that some people collect vintage watches?

its more just about how people waste money. if the entire sake of your collection to get vintage watches its obviously not a big deal but buying a bunch of fucked up old seikos is not really a great way to spend money. Unless you are claiming multiple people on this board specifically only want vintage seikos.

>>
>>62418894
i am saying watches you(as in anyone reading the comment) don't want as much. i was saying this so you would ignore my original comment about seiko and use the advice to save up for a the more expensive watch you want. Most people want a more expensive watch. if you like collecting 40 dollar watches and don't want a nice watch then obviously you are in the small subset that should ignore this advice. i am not telling anyone to like or do anything. judging by your crippling autism you should probably avoid any future attempts at communication with other human beings however.

>I just meant its bad to waste money on a lot of watches you don't want as much as a really good watch.
Sure, and that's sensible advice. I was just pointing out that such a description is unlikely to apply to people who collect vintage watches. People rarely deal with the additional work of collecting vintage watches unless they have a specific interest in them.
>>
>>62419058
how was it presumptuous? it was just advice saying don't buy a bunch of shitters if you are saving for a more expensive watch. Yu are fucking nitpicking the way i wrote my post to fit your crazy fucking thought process. If you are not saving up for a more expensive watch then don't fucking think about the post it doesn't apply o you. if you go back up the comments you can see someone wanted a rolex.

>>62419260
it doesn't i honestly thought people were buying those seikos because their couldn't afford other watches i genuinely had no idea people collected old cheap watches. it was a bad example but if you are in that subset then then the advice is obviously not for you and can be ignored i did not make a formula for watch collecting.

I honestly just now realized half this thread is a semantic argument about a statement i thought was pretty simple and benign aimed at one person who said they wanted a Rolex and people like him. I am going to go ahead and go to sleep now and never come back to this shit hole again.

Next service project, a Ronda 1377 from around 1975, inside an Etna Quartzonic (don't bother Googling it, you'll find nothing, must have been one of those Swiss parts assembler microbrands).

The date won't advance from the 6th, I'm really hoping it's not a broken/worn date wheel tooth, but it most likely is. At least there's still a shitton of Ronda 1377 parts around.

How loud is it actually? The start of that video triggers me something chronic.
Do we know how the movment actually works yet?
Are they planning to put it in their other watches? Which ones and which price points? I have more answers but I'm sure we don't have answers yet, pretty exciting to tell the truth.
Doesn't knock the 8 day power reserve GS out of my most desired watch but I do want one watch with that movement.
And 100% impossible for current chinks to copy as it sounds like it has some special snowflake quartz in it.

Isn't short term grail and oxymoron?
I have a protrek in the mail so I guess that, after that I'm looking at getting a turtle but I'm waiting for a local guy to get them in so I can try one on, should be here in a month or so. And then after that I want to get a thin dress watch and am looking at the Citizen ones but might get a meme Orient. Shirt term I just want to get a watch for every occasion and after those I'm sorted and I can start working towards a Rolex.

Nothing arrived yet. Movement already passed Russian customs, not it's sitting at local customs.

This is the seller's pic of the movement.

Forgot pic, fuck, shit.

Also it's going to get a full service as soon as it arrives, since the factory oils are likely long dead (this movement looks like it was made around 1989), and I was originally getting a 3133 so I can say I've serviced a mechanical chronograph before, and I don't really trust the Seagull enough.

And this will be the dial and hands. Dial might be a redial or rep, but the important part were this specific set of hands which I couldn't fin anywhere else.

I didn't order a case yet.

Interesting shit familia.
So you are a watchmaker i take it, or atleast a serious hobbyist?

Was the pricing of the Sturmanskie chronograph the original motive for your build? How much you save if you build your own?
>>
>>62433024
Watch repairing is my job. I don't call it watchmaking, imo a watchmaker is someone with a more serious education than mine.

Yeah, the Sturmi is pretty much the cheapest non-shit chronograph available. By building my own watch from parts I only save about 10-15% compared to a good-condition used one, but here the parts are all NOS.
>>
>>62432792
Yes they're fake.

>>62433093
Cool, remember to post the final result here several times.

>>62433198
You know the difference between a reproduction and a fake?
>>
>>62433526
The line is blurry on this one. On one hand it was originally manufactured by Poljot, but on the other hand it might be a rework sold as a NOS dial.

I'll do high-res pics of it when it arrives, we got at least one guy here who knows his shit about Poljots, let him have the final verdict.

It doesn't even have recessed subdials. The logo is too bold. The lume is the wrong consistency. The hands aren't flat and are too skinny.

The subdials are recessed and have the circular pattern, it's just barely visible. I guess it might be a repaint job that ended up too thick.

Yeah the hands don't look good either, but I really wanted the chrono seconds hand with the wings. Which may not be accurate either. Fuck.

IIRC, 384 batts are compatible.

>>62434188
There is no reason to believe it was ever an original dial. If they fake one piece they'll fake all of them, from scratch. You can even look at the tiny corners of the indices, or the date window chamfers, between your two photos.

search up 325 battery alternates. The assbackwards thing about the naming conventions is that there are multiple ones for the same form factor and voltage

They make modified batteries for Accutrons that drop the voltage using an attached pcb. Probably not worth it though.

I was on the subway today and a guy stepped onto the train in front of me, a young professional clearly in his first "real" job, and I noticed he was wearing a nice watch and I looked closer. It was a fucking quartz Disel watch with a gingham shirt and you know what? It looked 100x better than all these horrible Raketas and Poljots and Seikos look on you guys. Diesel. Not even a fashion brand. A second-rate has-been fashion brand, making better watches than what you guys jerk off over, and probably for cheaper. You can't see inside the watch, and if you can, the watch is ugly anyway.

The people I see with these kinds of watches /g/ jacks off over are like, the pedicab guy, the sketchy Postmates guy standing in line at Juice Press, the guy on the train eating a fucking dollar slice with one hand while playing loud music with his phone in the other. People with no taste and no future.

Get a grip and realize that you look awful, no one gives a fuck that your watch isn't "in house", and there are about 20 different things people notice about you, that you have full control over, that are more important than whether your watch is mechanical or has hardlex or whatever stupid shit you agonize over all day.

oh and inb4 "but technology". Quartz is technology. A clusterfuck of unreliable parts dipped in grease is not "technology". Bringing super accurate timekeeping down to a price point where the cost of the device is not a major life expense is technology. Scrimping your NEETbux to pay extra to buy a poorfag's aspirational knockoff version of a hand made Swiss luxury product is not technology, so don't even try with that tortured logic. You're embarrassing.

I bought a Seiko GMT movement recently and unless I'm mistaken, the GMT hand moves in tandem with the hour hand. It's kind of cool, but I think it means I'm stuck in Japan's time zone in order for it to be accurate. I don't want to fuck around with it too much because I'm worried I might damage the internal mechanism.
