Then 30 days later when their data is destroyed by a cryptolocker virus that was patched 14 days prior, you can be certain they will immediately blame Microsoft for not protecting them.

That is why Microsoft made updates impossible to turn off via the GUI, to protect retards from themselves.

>>
>>62414598
Even on default settings it doesn't force restart unless you postpone updates for several weeks, and you can easily change it to not restart at all. People who say their "work" got interrupted are either shitposting or ignored the multitude of warnings they were given and didn't even bother to look at the settings. Why wouldn't you turn off or restart your computer at least once in the space of 2-3 weeks anyway? What are you doing on a desktop that can't be interrupted for weeks at a time?
>>
>>62414631
>Even on default settings it doesn't force restart unless you postpone updates for several weeks,
that just sounds like a delayed force restart
>>
>>62414643
Yes, it forces a restart after giving you a couple of weeks' worth of warnings. I didn't say it doesn't force restart at all by default. Not that it even matters as you can easily just disable reboots entirely, I had 200 days' uptime on a 10 machine before I decided to restart for something.
>>
>>62414631
>>62414643

It needs to be a service... Legally they need to ask permission from the user before they sell collected information from the user unless it's a service that the user use. If the user owns the software and microsofts snoops, collects info and sells it then it would be like as if a hacker did it. But if it's microsoft's service then they can spy as much as they like and sell whatever they want. According to CISA ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cybersecurity_Information_Sharing_Act ) it's even legal for microsoft to sell or give away passwords, social security numbers and credit card numbers. Internet services are the only "service" where that is the case.

I suspect that it is something that was invented when NSA was not allowed to snoop as much as before due to the 4th amendment. Now they can just buy info from companies because it's legally information given freely to the company and information that the company have freely given to the NSA.

No. The difference is an operating system that isn't a service means I, the owner, get to control how and when it updates, what services it runs, when they run, and even how they run. When an OS, or anything else really, is offered as a service those privileges are removed from me, the would-be owner, and instead managed by a third party. Sure, i might be able to select the level of service i want, but in the end the administration of it is beyond my control. I do not like that something I buy with the express intent of me being the owner of it is treated as a service.
no, I didn't buy it, but that's why I do not like the idea of an OS being a service
