I prefer linux, but can't really use it as daily driver due to games.

my servers run ubuntu headless, desktop and tablet (surface pro 3) runs windows. Would install ubuntu on all of them if games didn't exist.

Thought about setting up the "game VM" but can't be assed since I don't care enough and I value my free time way more now that I'm employed.

Linux for home-servers and specialized shit (specific server shit, android, htpc-distros and similar, and so much more).

Windows for everything else (servers, desktops, etc).

Anything else is retard tier.

I had an old laptop I was attached to, loaded with XP. I put an easy-to-use version of Linux in there, dual boot, and it was really fun to have a second OS. The freeware was preferable to a lot of the stuff companies made for Windows. I even enjoyed gaming on it, because OpenGL has a different sort of flavor than DirectX.

I heard if you have a powerful computer, you can even create a runtime environment (?) that plays DirectX games?

I wouldn't know, the only couple of games I play, (which is a very rare occasion) works fine in mid-range systems fine. I just can't see the appeal of video games any more, it's definitely not addicting like back in 2005-6.

When it comes to video entertainment you gotta focus on the greats and ignore the rest. Just play the games that are really good, watch the movies and TV shows that are really good. No use indulging something that is mediocre.

I'll probably make a thread on /g/ asking about running DirectX in Linux. I imagine that will be more or less possible depending on what year it is.

most games coming out 2014 and later are being programmed to run well on mid range systems. the thing is, many are DirectX exclusive. Linux gaming is still a valid option, though.
