Anyway guys like Invicta-cuck makes The Urban Gentile look bearable in comparison. I mean TGV is hard cringe with his constant LARP-ing of a Yuropoor aristocrat with refined taste, but at least he seems to be a good natured fellow, with a decent (albeit very meme) taste in watches.

Invicta-cuck is just a thin-skinned sociopath. He maintains eye contact with the camera the same forced way a psychopath does, struggling to pretend they regard the disposable talking objects around them as loved human being.

So is anyone else excited for the upcoming reveal of Zeniths new mechanical regulator in two days or what?

This is super interesting to me as Zenith apparently intends to put this into series production.

If all of the claims about it are true, and the movement is successful to the extent that it makes sense for Zenith to discontinue the traditional escapement, then yeah, I'll be fucking hype.

They're apparently going to GUARANTEE 1 second per day, which assuming random distribution means half of the pieces will be as accurate as a normal quartz movement.

It, of course, will not be a random distribution, and the majority will be within half a second.

I'm fucking hype. Let's just hope there's no drawbacks.

how is $10k an 'easily achievable grail'? or is this relative, eg I'd spend $10k on vehicle mods, but not a watch, whereas you'd spend $10k on a watch, but not vehicle mods?

Or perhaps you'd spend $150k on a vehicle, and $10k on a watch without thinking twice?

When you buy something, the money isn't gone, it's in the thing you bought.

Watches are generally bad at keeping their value, but they're far, FAR better than vehicle mods.

With certain watch brands, and certain watch models, this isn't true though. I think you could probably buy this new Zenith if you made peace with it's resale value likely peaking at 80% retail.

I looked into it and I can't find out what Rolex's annual revenue is. When I search for it all I can find are articles about Apple watches outselling Rolex. But where are they getting the numbers from? Tech Crunch says Apple's "other products" made $2.74 billion, which includes Apple watches and Apple TV, and Beats headphones. BGR reports the Apple watch sold $6 billion all by itself. Neither of these websites have real sources, only estimates, tweets, and links to other news sites reporting the same stuff.

I cannot find a website that mentions Rolex's revenue WITHOUT bringing up the Apple watch. Which is kind of suspicious, and makes me think they're just parroting other "news" websites without doing any research.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if Apple watch outsold Rolexes. They are a lot cheaper and people usually care more about brand names than actual quality.

Literally weaponized autism. The 45xx movement was designed from the ground up for maximum accuracy and had a lot of adjustment and regulation labour put into it, and it shows. You have to understand that the 45xx movement was a product of Daini's obsession with beating the Swiss at the Swiss chronometer trials, and doing so with a production movement and not a one off ringer. It is literally the only series produced movement to have ever both won a chronometer trial and passes astronomical observatory chronometer certification.

The downside is that the 45xx is simply less durable than most Daini designed movements of that era, needs more frequent servicing, and is much more likely to end up needing spare parts from a donor movement than a 51xx, a 52xx, a 68xx, or even a 701x chronograph.

Just go to Meranom, find a case and dial you like, and then buy it or see if you can get it for less on eBay.

Is there another video showing it other than this one?
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=e_GZEEExTPo

There's also this forum post about it:
http://forums.watchuseek.com/f27/defy-lab-4530577.html

>Committed to precision
>The measured precision of the DEFY Lab naturally meets the requirements of the ISO-3159 standard and in fact exceeds them. Never has a mechanical watch in the history of watchmaking, through any chronometry contest serial production, reached such a high level of performance and precision. Isochronism for serial production amounts to +/- 0.5 seconds from 0 to 48 hours. By way of comparison, the best conventional series systems reach somewhere in the range of +/- 2 seconds over just 24 hours. Beyond that, the accuracy of academic systems collapses due to the effect of physics. The precision of a coupled balance-spring is dependent on its amplitude. Such is not the case for the Zenith-Oscillator technology.
>Triple certified
>The Defy Lab is a "Tête de vipere" chronometer certified by the Observatory of Besancon on behalf of the International Bureau of Weights and Measures. The Zenith-Oscillator regulating organ is in the process of being certified as non-magnetic and meets high criteria regarding temperature variations.
With regard to the thermal behaviour the LVMH Watch Division Research & Development Department had to extend the spectrum of ISO-3159. Deviations of around 0.3 seconds per day and per degree Celsius of deviation, which is twice as good as the standard recommends, are certified. This variance is also measured on the thermal spectrum -7°C to +53°C, whereas the standard is limited to +8°C to +38°C.
The watch obviously meets the magnetic criteria of ISO-764. It even exceeds them by nearly 18 times (the completed watch), that is to say 88,000 Amperes per meter or 1,100 Gauss. And there is no need for an extra inner case to meet these criteria.

It will be released as a Zenith. Both companies are owned by LVMH, so I'm guessing Tag's experimental watch division may have been used to prototype the concept or something.

Pic related will be the initial limited edition version, which is ghastly ugly, but the hope is that if this movement takes off they'll eventually use it in some classically styled models.

>>
>>62399786
>185 in 9H
Apparently low amplitude is normal for 45xx movements to reduce the wear and tear on the movements from the higher beatrates.

https://musingsofawatchaddict.wordpress.com/2015/12/02/vintage-king-seiko-45-buying-experience/

According to this article about 230 degrees dial up at full wind is normal for 45xx movements. I didn't know that, actually. My 5256 shoes ~280 degrees dial up and stays above 240 in all 5 other positions at full wind.

I like to combine my watch game with a ironic fedora. People around me give a lot of credit to me for my choises and tell me I look classy. None of them know I do it ironically, but as long as I get compliments I don't mind.

Thanks for the tips
Is there some quick way to search/filter the many models other than using eBay which is hit and miss? (Sometimes sellers don't correctly list things, etc.)

I'm probably just going to pull the trigger on the Dolce and I will likely have at least a few years before I end up with a Grand Quartz, lol, so I'm not in a hurry, but it'd be nice to have my sights set on something. There are a lot of variations of these, apparently.

Honestly, it's such a clusterfuck that I usually buy models by sight alone. It's pretty hard to get information on a lot of older Seiko quartz models, even on the higher end. If you're lucky, the seller will list the case and movement codes.

I hate this. I don't think I'm a fedora-wearing dork for wanting something that fits like that. I don't understand this giant dinner plate watch trend.

Grand Quartz was the name used around the 70s for Seiko's high end quartz watches, you can find those for pretty cheap because they're older. They ended the Grand Quartz and Grand Seiko lines and then resurrected them again, but now they're all just called Grand Seiko no matter what movement they have. A current Grand Seiko might be automatic, quartz, or spring drive. A quartz modern GS will cost more than a vintage quartz GQ. All of the GS quartz movements are high-end and use jeweled bearings, so they will have jewels even if they're quartz.

>Will the 50 year anniversary of the Moon landing be yet another yawn?

Obviously.

If Omega were not-shit they would make a special edition with the original Lemania 321 movement. Even counting the costs of retooling shit they would probably make a fucking fortune doing that, but Swatch has the stereotypical shortsightedness and Jewishness of big, soulless holdings corporations.

The Swatch Group believe themselves to primarily be a marketing entity. They see manufacturing as a cost center that takes dollars away from generating additional revenue by being spent on advertising to normies.

It doesn't help that the watch is 99% bezel, that makes the watch wear bigger.

>steel case
>rotating bezel

afaik steel cases didn't have the rotating bezel crown on the left, so I'm not really sure how you will do it.

The case is the comfiest among all the Poljot chronographs and I've owned a few already, the case must be like 39 mm, too lazy to measure rn. Pretty sure you can google it yourself.

What kind of budget? Do you want mechanical or quartz? Standard cheap mechanical recommendation is women's Orient. Standard quartz recommendation is Citizen. If she wants a fashion brand, best is usually Anne Klein (very budget) or Kate Spade (typically a younger brand than I expect your mother is looking for but better than brands like kors, Gucci, etc. that target older demographics).

Depressing but seems true.

What I fear is that this marketing think is spreading. under Schnyder/Oechslin we saw a lot of outrageous stuff from Ulysse Nardin. Now Schnyder is dead and Oechslin has left and all we see is ugliness. Oechslin has said he left Ulysse Nardin with tech that should last them 20 years. I can believe it but have not seen it.

Hmm, I didn't know that, I'm checking Polmax3133 right now. Now I'm a bit conflicted on what I want more, the rotating bezel which is neat but kinda useless, or the steel case which won't wear down as much, but lacks a 9 o'clock crown.

Anyway this is one of the cases I might order. It's supposedly NOS from an Italian seller, who claims the case is stainless steel (or at least that's what Google Translate tells me), but comparing the color of the caseback to the case it does look more like plated.

I don't know if for instance those German guys (Poljot International or Poljot.de or something) ever made a rotating bezel steel case.

Also I don't care if the watch I build will be a bit Franken-ish, as long as the parts are NOS and Russian, the movement USSR-era and it passes as a Shturmanskie at first glance. I'm not going to sell it anyway.

That Italian seller is infamous among Soviet shit collectors for being a literal Dr. Frankenstein.
Don't buy unless you don't care about it being chromed plated brass (not SS like he says).
That caseback without logo or serial number is fishy as fuck too.

I'm not poor, so I paid for a better movement in an SKX because I preferred it aesthetically to the several other ISO certified Seiko mechanical diver models available for well under $400.

I'm just not childish enough to whine like a baby because very single model produced by every single watch company doesn't cater to my specific wants and desires.

Vintage is generally sketchy at that price point since you will likely need to service the watch if you want it to last or work properly. Just pick your favorite Seiko or Orient. If you don't mind the watch being disposable, you could also check out system 51 or whatever the cheap Swatch one is.
