i was careful to say "high density display", not high resolution. the iPhone 4 came out in 2010. it also represented a consistent way of dealing with high pixel density displays, first by conforming to a single standard of doubling the pixel density of conventional displays (none of this floating point crap) and second by scaling at integral values (which you could only do if you only allowed displays to double in density and do nothing else).

Actual industrial designer here (as if that actually makes my opinion more valuable).
I think it just looks okay from what I've seen so far. The UI is a big part of the look of a phone so I'll have to see how they deal with the camera cutout and the home button tomorrow. If the sections next to the camera cutout are just black with the time and signal strength indicator then I think they did a pretty good job. The way Essential did it looks retarded imo and Apples version has the potential to be more nicely integrated into the UI. Minimal bezels is the way phone design is moving and what to do with the front camera and sensors is an important problem to solve. Apple's solution seems to be the best so far.
I think it would look a lot better if the corners of the screen were less rounded as well but I wouldn't expect apple to change that aspect of the design too much. The vertical camera on the back is uglier than the horizontal version, my guess is they had to do that to accommodate the extra front cameras. Even with the minimal bezels, we're now at 4 years with an essentially unchanged body shape, which is getting extremely boring.

Long time Android user here, I'm making the switch to the iPhone 8

I've used phones from Sansung to LG to HTC and sitting on my Nexus 6P since launch has been nothing but absolute headaches and searching forums for how to fix bug X,Y or Z.

I'm sick of these battery draining bugs, lagginess and this phone is running latest and greatest pure stock android (So over-rated). I'm sick of not being part of iMessage group chats, failing MMS messages, having to rely on 3rd party apps because the stock clock app or reminder (Keep) are just hideous. No continuity with my Macbook Pro, No first party accessories, no customer service, no store I can just walk in with a problem (Have you tried dealing with Huawei or Google? What a joke).

I can't wait till the iPhone 8 launches, I left them the same reason you did - I just simply got bored and outgrew it a while ago, I liked tweaking Android devices but now I'm a grown up with a full time job I don't care nor have the time to spend staring at my phone home screen and making it as "miniamlist" as possible. I just had to factory reset my 6P and left everything stock because I'm not bothered anymore. I just want a phone that is reliable, does the job and won't eat away at my battery making the phone obsolete after just one year of ownership.

I select the webbum and it opens in a new tab.
From there i have to select "Open in VLC"
Once it loads, I can watch it, delete it, switch back to my browser, close the tab, and return to the thread.
