Reposting.

My laptop has dual GPU (integrated intel HD graphics and dedicated Nvidia). What should I know before I try to install GNU/Linux?

Will I want to kill myself trying to make them work? Is there a version of Nvidia Control Panel for GNU/Linux to choose which programs use each GPU?

As it is now, they just barely work on windows. I would need them to at least barely work as they do now.

By the way, I haven't set on a distro yet, but I'm leaning towards Devuan. The DE should be KDE Plasma.

I want to experiment with smb multichannel. I have a ubuntu server with 2x nics, a desktop with 1x nic so far but about to buy a second and I have a managed switch.

So far I've been trying to get the 2x NICs working on the linux box but I don't really know enough about networking, thought it was just a case of assigning an IP to both NICs but I was told that I need to set up some kind of routing between them?

The NICs have 192.168.0.15/16 assigned respectively. What kind of routing do I need to setup? I can draw a network map if it helps but it's a piss easy setup.

Broadband router -> switch -> Desktop and server

I use compton to get rid of screen tearing and on debian 9 xfce it just stops working and the tearing gets really nasty. If I kill the compton process, the whole DE freezes and only thing that I can do is move the cursor. Usually it works like 10 minutes after startup. Full screen videos tend to stop the compton process. I use integrated intel gpu. The glx command doesn't work so I use a conf file. Wat do? Everything else works like a charm but tearing is a constant pain in the ass.

Only idiots are enchanted by random PKGBUILD collections aka the AUR.
"Lightweight" is a buzzword only idiots fall for.
Only idiots have the need to reinstall their OS more than once, which renders your installation argument moot.
Only idiots use Arch installers because they only introduce bugs and are against the core principle of avoiding useless abstractions.

ubuntu user here, does anybody have the same problem?

i always got my software via terminal, apt or apt-get, however i did occasionally install software via the GUI program (mainly those security updates that pop up every once in a while).

now i cant install any new software, i always get an error that the dependencies are missing.
i tried
sudo apt-get install -f

i looked at my /etc/apt/sources.list and couldnt find anything missing.

any help or a push in the right direction what to look for?

I'm trying to set up my raspberry pi 3 with SSH using keys. I found a tutorial (see https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12370), but it's using the default key size. I would like to use 4096 bytes keys. So what I need to do is revert my steps, but I don't really know much about what happens under the hood. I'm on the newest headless raspbian release, and ran:

# ssh-keygen
(not as root like in the tut, but as my user which has rights equal to the default Pi user)

How do I revert this step?
info ssh-keygen gave me no options to remove the generated keys. Is it enough to just delete the .ssh directory they were put in, or are there references to these files elsewhere that also need to be removed?

I have loads of Windows experience but I'm a total noob on linux, so please be gentle, senpai!

More seriously, I don't really see the problem. Sure, Nouveau is faster at basic shit, but Nvidia is fine there.

If you really need Nvidia to be better, then play with the settings in nvidia-settings. Also see:

How does the startx command actually work? I did a fresh install of Xorg and i3 on Debian, and writing startx will start i3. I haven't edited any configuration files, so how does it know that I want to start i3?
>>
>>62391676
It is a shell script, you can open it in a text editor and find out. From memory it uses /etc/session.d to decide it has some heuristics but generally uses the configured alternatives for x-session-manager, x-window-manager, x-terminal-emulator in order. I3 goes linked to x-window-manager when installed.

Ok on the raspberry pi there is a file (or you have to create it) ~/.ssh/authorized_keys
You have to copy the contents of the publics keys in there (google the format or use the ssh-keygen and 'ssh-copy-id -i private_key pi@localhost' on the raspberry pi to generate the file and with some kees and see how it looks, it's really simple).

The private keys stay on your machine will be used to log in.
