Has anyone asked google if they are now going to stop giving all our data to the government now that literally hitler is president? I mean that is their stance right? Unless they are completely full of shit.

Both Google and Apple collaborate with the government and place backdoors in their products (JUST LIKE ANY TECH GIANT FROM THE USA). Only a good goy like OP or a shill would say otherwise

Fuck off.

They definitely put up a fight more than alternative companies.
Still doesn't mean their products are locked down in any way. You just cannot have convenience and security. They are at complete odds.

This.
Either you go fully obscure mode, and try to defend your privacy by exchanging the comforts of everyday technology and the mainstream, or you submit to the botnet and allow yourself to be captured by it in exchange for blissful ignorance and comfort.
>>
>>62375551
To be fair tho, as long as you're not a terrorist, it's going to be hard for the government to convince google or apple to give them your data. I'm not even sure if such a even exists.

>hurr they just have to tell em' ur a terrorist and they give them your data!
Post proofs.

If I knew I were going through border controls I would take a second phone. Not full opsec burner, but essentially a blank just for communications on those trips.

The idea that border controls can look through your phone is fucking abhorrent.

Pure virtue signalling. Even while they're paying lip service to how much they value your privacy, they're giving full iCloud access to LEAs, shilling for biometric security (which you can legally be compelled to unlock) over passwords (which are protected by your Fifth Amendment rights), and "accidentally" leaving in backdoors for the NSA which are conveniently hidden from the public eye by their closed-source development system.

The fact the FBI had to outsource breaking into an iphone over one terrorist attempt is evidence that unless you're Bin Allah Mohammad Ali, they're not going to have to time or resources to bother.
>>
>>62376446
see vault9

There's like 4 vulnerabilities that let you get unlimited passcode attempts on iOS 11 right now.
>>
>>62376556
Never heard of it and google is just trying to recommend me a bar nearby.
Also okay yeah have fun entering all 9999 combinations.
If you have the physical device then effectively nothing can stop you from gaining access to it.
Like I said, unless you're Osama Fuqq Al-Americani Bin Islam, nobody is going to waste their time on your shit past "hey put your finger on the sensor"
>>
>>62375182
It's because apple's long term game plan is to you store all your money on your phone. And to implement this you need to have very good security. And if they can become a bank and have better adoption of apply pay, because people know it's the best. Then apple wins, they hold everyone money, they are the government.
>>
>>62376584
>Also okay yeah have fun entering all 9999 combinations.
A script and an FPGA can do it in hours.

>Like I said, unless you're Osama Fuqq Al-Americani Bin Islam, nobody is going to waste their time on your shit past "hey put your finger on the sensor"
Yeah but now icloud got compromised AGAIN and guess where people back up their shit to?
>>
>>62376240
>not supporting shitty Jap phones is apple shilling
>>
>>62375551
Are you serious? There was literally a whole case where Apple wouldn't create a backdoor to a terrorists fucking phone. FBI had to hire an outside company to sell them the exploit for access. Apple offered them a few workarounds to access the data but REFUSED to actually create software so they could access the phone. The options they offered were not so common knowledge but the average idiot could use them to access the iphone, FBI was just too stupid to do that.
>>
>ars
I'll wait for actual sources to tell me something.
Those guys are AWFUL. At being factual.
They just beat the average /g/-brainlet is all.

Yeah, but a metaphorical stick and they torture the poor brainlets into believing their shit.
>>
>>62377454
The fbi got the data without apple's help, fuck off iShill.
>>
>>62377454
The FBI aren't stupid. They probably already had theterrorist data, what they really wanted was the backdoor.
>>
>>62375182
What's the point of this consumerist snake oil when the baseband has access to your hardware including storage?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baseband_processor
>A baseband processor typically uses its own RAM and firmware
>Since the software which runs on baseband processors is usually proprietary, it is impossible to perform an independent code audit. By reverse engineering some of the baseband chips, researchers have found security vulnerabilities that could be used to access and modify data on the phone remotely

unlike microsoft and google, apple has no particularly compelling business stake in your data. microsoft and google both run huge advertising companies, so no matter what they tell you, trusting your data with them is like a heterosexual man offering to babysit your hot 16 year old daughter. maybe he can hold off from fucking her, but it's going to take all his goddamn strength to resist the urge.

and all he'll be thinking about is how his endgame will involve fucking her half to death the second he can.
>>

i'd take consistent, fast updates from iOS if the alternative is the uncertainty of android. google has launched so many half-hearted initiatives to signal long term support, but even to this day there are flagship phones from the past year that see a delay in android updates.

what happens if android pushes a security update but your OEM is an incompetent faggot who can't just get out of the way? this is a serious question. is your best bet honestly to stop taking updates automatically and start running custom ROMs? is there any phone on the android side of things that i can buy and just trust will get prompt updates for the next 3 years?
>>
>>62378089
This. A thousand times this.

As long as your phone is on and has been pin unlocked it is completely vulnerable.
It's only safe when it has been turned off so it isn't running any decrypted software.
>>
>>62380473
Chink phones update frequently
>>
>>62375661
>as long as you're not a terrorist
You can be classified as a terrorist or a potential terrorist by any letter agency at whim, retard. There isn't anything they really have to prove to do this.
>>
>>62380502
that's not specifically helpful. at least name a specific brand. i'm assuming there'll be 3-4 years worth of phones from that brand that i can google and see they're promptly brought up to parity with google updates.
>>
>>62379936

Gov thinks everyone is a terrorist. Therefore, everyone's data is mined. It's really not hard for them to hand over data, they give them that shit on a silver platter. And if they didn't, do you honestly believe those corporations would even exist?

the oneplus one didn't get marshmallow until april '16 despite marshmallow going public in october '15. this was within 2 years of launch
http://www.androidauthority.com/android-6-0-marshmallow-oneplus-one-cyanogen-os-13-685338/

Xiaomi's MI3 didn't get marshmallow till april '16 as well. same with MI4 apparently. they were released in october '13 and august '14 respectively.

the Oppo n1 was released in december '13 and didn't even get a direct lollipop update from Oppo.

i haven't dug into other phones from these companies, but my sense was that these were flagship phones that were released in the last 4 years, giving the manufacturers enough lead time to develop a reputation of supporting their devices for 3 full years.

i can run custom ROMs, but this shouldn't be one of those things that i have to take into my own hands to avoid falling behind in stability updates and security patches. i shouldn't have to wait 5+ months for my manufacturer to get a major software update from google to my device. if this were patching a vulnerability, that'd be 5+ months of being exposed with a publicly disclosed vulnerability. that's insane.
>>
>>62380561
yeah, this doesn't work for me personally. clearly it works for other people, but i don't want to buy a phone and not be sure that it'll continue to get updates that are, by all appearances, quite important in a reasonable timeframe.

The only fight they put up is in marketing utter bullshit to gullible retards.

Apple leaks absolutely everything to PRISM while telling their brain dead iDiot customers they aren't.

>>62375639
Apple is still a part of PRISM. They don't give a fuck about your privacy any more than Microsoft or Google. They will give your data to CIA/NSA when needed and you won't even know if it happens, and it will because """security""" agencies harvest more data on you than Google does for advertising purposes. Difference is, Microsoft and Apple exclusively push closed source software while Google gives you a choice of de-botnetting your OS.
