All the gay ass animations and glass shit are the worst thing about plasma, it's nice enough without those.

I use KDE.
Its kinda bloated compared to other DE but its less bloated than windows.

Moved from windows to mint kde day ago, on windows i usually spend 3-5 gb of ram on chrome and WoW 3.3 5.
After switching windows to mint kde and chrome to chromium the same fun costs me no more than 2 gb ram.

Why would my server need a desktop environment? I can remotely control it and write software for it from visual studio.

Some of the applications bundled with the latest package in arch, plasma-meta, are unusable but yes I like the DE.
Is there a stable repo for plasma on arch?

I tried Manjaro with Plasma recently (their package of it) and it had a nasty memory leak. Went unresponsive frequently and was unusable. Not sure if it was Manjaros issue or KDEs. I like KDE a lot and think itll be the defacto desktop eventually but for now Im sticking with XFCE

Ignoring utility focused WMs like i3 the DE space really is completely dried up.

Pretty disappointing.

+ Most KDE applications are pretty good. Dolphin, Okular, Ark, KRunner with Baloo.
+ It also has thumbnails in the file picker.
+ You can theme it to look more like what you'd like.
- It's built up out of a lot of parts, with a lot of files scattered over your system and the design isn't always consistent
- It's maybe too configurable so that the menus and option dialogs look like shit

Did it never occur to you that the parts in your pc are shit and the manufacturer doesn't support linux like they do windows?
You shouldn't be surprised that everything in linux is buggy when you use parts that aren't even remotely foss friendly where the manufacturer only implements workarounds in windows instead of engineering proper working hardware that doesn't shits its bed for the intended workload.

I use Gnome currently and I know it's shit, I know I'm relying on shitty extensions for basic features. I know it's slow and bloated. I know Gnome, GTK, and Red Hat are a cancer.

I really want to like Plasma. I have respect for its speed and low RAM usage, its modular design, its use of Qt, their cooperation with the community, its huge feature set and customisability.

I have three main problems with Plasma though:
>1. There's no Unity/MATE-like HUD feature. I think this was supposed to be in development, but I haven't heard anything new for months, and I have no idea where the code for it is if it's open source.
>2. Those fucking disgusting thick scrollbars. They make everything look so ugly. Why can't KDE Plasma have something like Gnome's overlay scrollbars? Those are so nice and comfy.
>3. When mixing GTK and Qt apps on Plasma, everything just looks shit no matter what I do. Even with Breeze and Breeze-GTK, the GTK windows still don't look quite the same. They have weird borders, weird glitches, and they just look wrong. If I use Gnome, everything looks fine, even Qt applications.

Nvidia 1

Nouveau

https://webmshare.com/eQvVJ

1 compositing / panel doesnt update when disable (game launch/opengl launch) --> nvidia propritary

2 compositing flashing black screen graphical glitch during compositing enable disable after program launch(default settings uncheck allow applications to block compositing fixes it)
3 mouse scroll causes garbled text in the main menu and other system settings place

4 really inconsistant mouse scroll rates, painfully slow in menus, very fast in dolphin, etc

5 when hovering over many icons (pinned panel programs, files on desktop) tooltip causes very bad lag / choppy fps (depends on theme, some better than others, breeze is one of the worst for it)

6 glitched text in Ark until you resize, also happens in Open File dialog prompts, only happens when Preview is selected, fixes when mouse hovers over any item. Happens every time.

7 wallpaper settings sometimes doesnt display correct preview, displays wrong wallpaper than what is chosen

8 if you install too many themes/window decorations the default Breeze theme gets overwritten by a randomly installed one? (Removing all themes sort of manages to pull Breeze default back though)

9 firefox turns white screen with loading bar if compositing enables or disables at any time (game launch, opengl program) have to restart firefox to fix (fixed in Nightly)

10 Themes dont uninstall properly. After you click remove, it still shows 'Uninstall' in 'Get new themes'

11 sometimes audio will completely bug out and be totally distorted/garbled until you move the slider up & down a bunch of times.

12 switching default audio to HDMI from the panel menu causes audio to glitch out until you switch back & forth and move the volume up and down, gradually fixing it
13 Poor OpenGL Compositor settings. XRender resizes windows, moves windows, much smoother
than the OpenGl renderers

yeah fuck you & fuck KDE op

Hey OP I've been using KDE for about a month and there has been some weird behavior with okular and dolphin. Its something that comes and goes and I really don't know what is causing it. What happens is that my system drops to around 15 FPS or less whenever I use the hand tool on okular and some times when I drag-select any number of files/directories on dolphin. I'm using KDE Neon and this problem has been driving me crazy. Its not a big deal really, but if this kind of thing can happen just when I install updates, what guarantees that next time it wont get worst?
Maybe you know something bout this OP? If this problem gets solved my comfy lever would be maximum, I've really enjoyed plasma.

KDE offers a shit ton of features and can be extended to no end with QML. Meanwhile, GNOME keeps removing features, the old features are implemented as third party extensions in slow as fuck JavaScript and barely maintainted. Rest of the customization is done with CSS that has to be updated every fucking GNOME patch. Meanwhile, KDE4 themes work on Plasma.
>>
>>62389496
This is true. I wish there were more good themes for Plasma though. It honestly feels like it just has Breeze and Arc, when there are tons of good GTK themes. How hard is it to port a GTK theme to Plasma?
>>
>>62389822
I have created a few popular GNOME themes, but I use KDE now. I have no experience with vector graphics so I can't theme KDE. Thank god Breeze is an amazing and extremely customizable theme.
