So my parents computer recently bit the dust. Was an amd x3 processor with what ever motherboard supports said processor. The graphics was on board which is what went out. Anyway my dad wants a new computer, doesn't want a mid tower anymore, wants a micro ATX. He is looking to spend about $500 while keeping his hdd. So the question I have for you is, what would be a good micro ATX motherboard/processor combo to look into? I was thinking of an amd apu build, but I haven't built a computer in over 5 years, so I'm not sure what's the best value. Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated.

ignore anything below A10. They're shit. Also ignore your dad and get a new HDD. it may work now but if it's as old as the rest of the dead PC it will die soon. You can copy his stuff into the new one.

The AMD APUs are good for the price-performance that they offer. Go for an A8 or an A10. And a new HDD, just copy the things on the old HDD or clone it
