WHY THE HELL DOES FREENAS NEEDS 8 GB OF RAM?
THATS FUCKING RIDICULOUS
WHY WOULD I EVER USE THAT SHIT INSTEAD OF WINDOWS 7, 4 GB RAM, GOOGLE DRIVE/DROPBOX ?
>ZFS
FUCKING REALLY?
>>62371450
OpenMediaVault is the solution, freenashit is a meme.
>>62371450
Try PoorNAS then
Unraid is king, stop using inferior software.
Man Poe's Law is a bitch.

This is my current setup
XenServer on a Pentium G4400 (5085 Benchmark, 1066.6 CPU-Z benchmark)
16 GB of RAM in 1 DIMM (I can install 4 dimms, 64 GB RAM MAX DDR4 2400 Mhz)
1 SSD 120 GB
1 HDD 2 TB
1 HDD 3 TB
My main VM runs on 64 GB partition on the SSD Storage Repository, will Install Windows 10 because I need fucking windows Apps to run in there. 8 GB RAM, 4 cores,
The second VM (Still haven't decided if I will run FreeNAS, OpenMediaVault, a random Windows 7, or plain Linux) but it will have a 32 GB partition on one HDD, and also direct access to the 3 TB HDD, with ZFS.
The other VM will be turned on, on demand, because I don't need them to be running all the time, but still, 8 GB is WAY too much for a FUCKING CIFS server that can't even fun Dropbox/GDrive with auto-sync
I was thinking on running PFSENSE to balance my WAN's, but nah, I alredy have one WAN balancing router for that shit.

>WHY
someone comparing freenas to consumershit like gdrive/dropbox wouldnt unsterstand so fuck off.
also those 8 gb has to be eec ram or u can kiss your data good bye on zfs
>>62371450
It doesnt require 8gb.
Source: i'm running it with 4gb
Also you need 1gb of ram per 1TB in ZFS, that's how that shit works, brainlet
>>62371516
FreeNAS is essentially an enterprise product and is a major overkill for an average home user.
For home use go OpenMediaVault.
DIY (with ZFS) would be FreeBSD or Debian/Ubuntu with OpenZFS.
>>62374064
you can tune how much ram zfs chews up.
>>62373471
>posting benchmark
?????
>windows10 for VMs
enjoy wasting resources
>8gb on freeNAS
what are you doing ? deduplication ? encryption ?
please do this:
>log into the server via ssh or telnet
>type top
>hit enter
>make a photo of it with your iphone, and post it in this thread
>installing pfsense
if its your first pfsense just do it, its's fun
>>62374172
>>62373471
>>windows10 for VMs
>enjoy wasting resources
i mean you should use win7 instead
>>62373996
eec ram?
european economic community ram?
ECC RAM is a meme for home use.
>>62373471
jesus christ you are running vm's on that?
what a joke
>>62371450
redpill me on RAID and URE, guys
if i buy brand-new consumer-grade HDDs, how many drives and TB/drive would be the max for safely rebuilding a raidz1 system? what about raidz2?
>>62374192
the number of people you see that think its 1337 to run ZFS in a VM that has a host NTFS or even a Linux file system makes me laugh.
>>62374197
very good article here.
