what are some android phones (midrange, preferably) that support 240fps video capture?

I know this is smartphone general, but I can really use some input on a decent Android Tablet seeing as tablets are pretty much just giant phones anyway. That said I currently have a Samsung Tab A 8" tablet. Works great except for its abysmal 1024x768 screen and lack of RAM. Looking for
>at least 1080p screen
>2GB RAM
>From a major brand (Samsung, LG etc)

I'll avoid asus tablets at all costs because they're garbage. Been burnt on them once in the past already. And unless something has changed, Apple (Ipad in this case) still can't into a 4chan browser or webM support. So that's out of the question. Price range is up to $300. Anything past that and I could honestly just look at a MS surface with an Intel Atom in it.

Samsung, Huawei and Lenovo are basically the only Android tablet manufacturers worth considering. If your main usage is internet browsing and reading I'd look for something with a 4:3 aspect ratio, for watching video 16:9 is preferrable.

How is lenovo with updates and security patches on their devices? Never owned anything Lenovo other than used chinkpads. I don't want another case of "lol we don't support that device anymore sorry!" Like Asus did with the Zenpad 8.0 that to this day is stuck on Android 5.0 and randomly freezes into a reboot.

>>
>>62371356
It launched with Marshmallow in 2017. That should tell you enough about the update support it'll get.

No Android tablet (outside Pixel C) gets long term update support though, you'll be lucky if you get one major update and some security patches.

The Lenovo P8 is look attractive but I can't seem to find it anywhere like Amazon or Newegg other than being sold out and only shipping from China. and I've never heard of gearbest. The Samsung S2 8.0 is looking more tempting.
>>
>>62371471
True. This is bullshit. Why does support drop off a cliff for tablets? They're just larger phones. Fucking stupid. And Google can suck my dick if they think I'm going to pay $600 for a fucking tablet. It's still running Android which means the same limitations and restrictions.
>>
>>62371356

You have easy access to the US models so you can probably flash it with LineageOS on top of that. I am stuck with a European model which of course means no support either on XDA or LineageOS for custom ROMs for that exact model.

My Samsung S2 tablet got updated to Nougat 7.0 at least.
>>
>>62371553
My Samsung Tab A 8.0 went from 5.1.1 to 6.0.1 and that's about it. Judging by the specs and price of the S2, it seems hard to beat. Better CPU, twice the RAM, twice the ROM, and twice the screen resolution.

Now granted it's almost twice the price I paid for my Tab A but eh, what can you do?
>>
>>62371405
well the Android tablet market has really stagnated, there's only a few major companies making them anymore. Samsung, Huawei, Lenovo and Asus is basically all that's left, and a bunch of no-name chink companies making budget crap. Like you said yourself, Asus are pretty garbage (unless they've improved recently), so Samsung, Huawei, Lenovo is basically all that you're left with.
>>
>>62371622

There's also Xiaomi making them but

>>

That S2 is pretty old already (launched in 2015), I'd pick something more recent if you want any updates:

If I don't care about LTE on a tablet, can I consider a Xiaomi a good / better alternative ?
>>
>>62371622
Company I work for has been using ASUS Memo 8 pads for a year or so, now moving to the Zenpad 8s. The Memo pads are functional and work fine for 99% of what people would use them for, but something about the screen is rather fragile. Probably 1 out of 10 ends up with only the back light working after a few months.

No such issues with the Zenpads, and they feel much nicer to use, I thiink they stepped their game up a bit but I only have the two tablets to compare.
>>
>>62371697
God damnit. Fuck it! I guess I'm just going to hold onto my Tab A for a while and play the waiting game. I took at look at that list and the only I see is Samsung is re-releasing the Tab A 8.0. an 800p screen instead of 768p, and 2GB RAM instead of 1.5GB RAM. That new S3 Samsung tablet is like $600.

Common wisdom is a halfway decent case (otterbox commuter, Incipio cases, something with rubber inner covered by hard plastic outer shell) and that's about it. Given the choice between glass or plastic screen protectors, always go with tempered glass.

And for an all glass Note 8, you'll want all the protection you can get.

For slightly less performance (the difference is unnoticeable in regular use), you get much better battery life, better display, better camera, better build quality, longer update support from Xiaomi, and there's an version with 4gb RAM and 64gb storage. Why would you want a bigger phone? It's not comfortable to hold, not comfortable to use with one hand, can be dropped more easily, doesn't look as nice.
You can enjoy your bezels all you want, but I'd rather something with more screen space and is easier to hold.

What's a good 8 inch phablet? I found one on ebay for like $100 but I think it might be too chink for me.
>>
>>62373079
Every bezel less phone has that though. A small chin on the bottom and some have a small strip at the top too.

Bezel less is just marketing, it just means greater than 80% screen to body ratio these days.

>>
>>62372981
Oneplus 5 has 73% ratio. Top and bottom could be slimmer, I agree, but there absolutely must be a 1mm side bezel - otherwise you'll have to rely on shitty software solutions(that aren't present in pure Android) to avoid accidental touches - that's why S8 is a meme.
>>
>>62373138
It's shit.

Try looking for a used Samsung note perhaps that you could install lineage on instead?

>>62373177
Just because you don't like something doesn't make it a meme. Believe it or not, buy most people appreciate thinner bezels which is why the s8 and s8+ have become so popular. At least one third of the people in my office are using an s8 or S7 edge.

It's popular for both those reasons. Lots of people actually like the thinner bezels and 18:9 ratio since it lets you fit more vertical content on screen. It's also popular because Samsung is pretty good at marketing and apple has been fucking up a lot lately. For most people who can't be bothered looking it up, Samsung = Android and Android = Samsung.

But yes, I wish they made bezel less phone with only the bottom chin and capacitive buttons that aren't shit. Hey /g/uys. My HTC One M8 decided that today was its last day of operation and no longer charges, the phone is dead and I need a new one. Would really appreciate some guidance.

I live in the US, on Verizon, and really enjoyed the HTC One M8. Not into the huge phones like the iPhone plus or the pixel XL. Looking for a similar screen size around 5in or a little more or less.

Also kind of skeptical about the leases Verizon puts out. Are they as weird as they sound?

Any help is appreciated!

I thought AT&T was supposed to be an utter shit show. I live in grand rapids michigan, the 2nd largest city in the entire state, right in the middle of downtown where coverage should be fine. Every person on AT&T who walks into my first floor apartment goes to zero bars after walking into my door. The building isn't even big. It doesn't have anything that would especially block signal from the tower, and still people on AT&T can't even make a basic call while in my house. Verizon works fine.

What's the best phone to use without google play services? I've got the s8 and it has great hardware, I Iove the design and its amazing camera, but I fucking hate the software.I thought that rooting could make a difference since I couldn't even uninstall the facebook app before rooting. My mom's iPhone 5 is starting to have issues, which include some shit where it won't connect to the home wifi so it's eating our cellular data. So she will be looking for a replacement soon.

Current carrier is Verizon. I'd like to get her off of Apple's retarded ecosystem if at all possible, and I think she's open to it. Most intensive things she does with it is play games and shopping websites so it doesn't have to be super high end, just something that's not sluggish or has blatant hardware issues.

Best option?

You're a moron, if the phone size is physically smaller but with a larger screen it's still easy to use 1 handed.

S8 is identical size to the S5 (besides being like 1.4cm taller), but the S5 has a 5.1" screen, the S8 has a 5.8" screen. But in the hand they feel identical.

Bigger screen doesnt mean bigger phone, look at the actual dimensions of the phone you're used to.

Look at this

Zenfone 2
>152.5 x 77.2 x 10.9 mm

Galaxy S8
>148.9 x 68.1 x 8 mm

The S8 is literally smaller in every dimension.
>>
>>62376955
I guess I am a moron but I'm going to sustain the argument with two things:
The S8 costs well over $600 and I'm not a fan of the no bezel meme. I want to be able to actually hold my phone without touching the screen.

>Name one reason why you need a headphone jack
The time it takes for me to plug out my headphones from my laptop, plug them into my phone, and head off for work far less exceeds the time it would take for me to plug out my headphones from my laptop, find the fucking dongle like i'm some 5 year old, plug the dongle into my phone, and then plug the headphone jack into said dongle.

Bluetooth is too unreliable to be a proper replacement for a headphone jack, as it serves as just another radio interface that can fray up in certain situations (walking under phone lines) and eats up battery on both ends. Plus, I live in NY, where you can get a pair of decent 3.5mm headphones for $7. Show me one pair of decent bluetooth headphones at $7?

USB-C is intrusive. It requires me to make a decision I shouldn't have to make ("do I want to charge my phone, or listen to audio?") in times such as having to take a call while my phone is charging. Yes, there's more dongles, but why should I settle for a middleman? Also, compatibility. I keep one pair of headphones, that's all I should need.

/g/entlemen, I am looking for suggestions and opinions on getting a new phone.

Used OPO for three years, but a 4-hour battery life is unbearable.

I'm looking for something that has a close to stock Android or a possibility to flash a new ROM, put TWRP, and a ROM without Gapps, since I don't use anything Google related. Budget isn't an issue, and I am not a fan of Applel and Samshit, but anything else is fine. Big battery would be a plus.
>>
>>62380346
Op5.
>>
>>62380353
How's the ROM support? Any custom ones?
>>
>>62380321
If you got 24 months of warranty on a 220€ phone you might as well just buy it. If it fits your needs better than the Moto z play, go for it.
The Moto is a good phone as well, for me the Moto is much better due to AMOLED, but not everyone likes that anyway. If it turns out to be shit just sell it and take the 140€loss as a lesson.
>>
>>62380358
The ROM support is great. Official LOS is already available, but there are many more options. And unlocking bootloader doesn't void your warranty. As for the battery, I got 8h SOT of web browsing on LTE. Non-Internet usage will be even better.
>>
>>62380339
Then I'll just solder a new plug. You know how to solder Anon, right?

All custom offices are equipped with xrays so there's no way to avoid them. Best you can hope for is to ask the seller to devalue the package and hope no one in customs opens it to check.

i ordered my rn3p from gizchina(over a year ago), they have a warehouse in spain. You pay more shipping to cover the customs charges though, but still less than than what customs would charge

Buy it from a store that offers import tax free shipping, like Honorbuy, Ibuygou or HK Goldway

Note8 is by far the BEST large screen phone you can get currently.

However if you dont see yourself using the Spen, or the extra 2GB of RAM, the S8+ is really good too and much cheaper.

If price isnt particularly a huge factor the Note8 is bar none the top dog currently.

I'm thinking of getting a Xiaomi Redmi 4x, however it seems like too good a deal to be true. I've found it around the 140€ price point, and there's nothing but praise written about it from what I've seen. Do you guys know anything about it?
My budget is at most 210€, and other worthwhile options I've seen are the Honor 7 Lite and maybe the Samsung J5 (2017 edition). I'm also considering a Nokia 5, with the hope that it's as durable as older Nokia devices.
I mostly use my phones to watch YouTube videos and Netflix, read books, general internet browsing, Discord, do flashcard reps, etc. I play games only occasionally, and it's usually puzzle games.
Important detail: I'm actively looking for devices with screens at 5.2" or (preferably) smaller.
Is there any other devices that'd fit my criteria?

tl;dr Is the Xiaomi Redmi 4x truly good? Should I look for something else (as long as it's < 5.2")?

Decent build quality, but the 16gb storage, 2gb ram, and Snapdragon 430 lets it down. There are better phones that can be had with Nokia 5 money.
>>
>>62381788
The G5+ is unfortunately sold 335€ minimum over here, and the Redmi 4 Prime has sold out. Thanks for the suggestions however.

>>62381826

>>
>>62382006
Yeah, seems like the only solution... I've looked through every major store selling the Prime, and through a bunch of small ones. It's sold out literally everywhere, it seems that it sold like hotcakes in February and March.

I know, but there's like, a single store selling it in the whole country.

Buying from a Chinese store is a no go, since import taxes in my country are crazy high. I'd end up paying the phone's price in taxes (no, I'm not shitting you).

Kirin 960 isn't really a great head to head against the SD835.

SD835 is on 10nm, clocked a bit higher per core, and the GPU is more than double that of the Kirin 960's.

In pure CPU power they're within 10% or so, but the SD835 uses less power to do the same work loads because of 14nm vs 10nm process node.

on the GPU side however the SD835 is in another league. And it's why most phones with the Kirin 960 are 1080p not 1440p, the GPU isn't up to snuff.
>>
>>62382734
Yeah but I don't want close.

>>62382724
For Indian market sure. For global perhaps at the end of the month. Price drop is unsure since it'll be selling like hotcakes.
>>
>>62382684
Stop shilling chinese phones. keep the chinese at the bottom of production, not as indepedent creators. they're not ready to be financially independent. You can start buying chinese phones when their society grows up a bit
>>
>>62382803
Look mate, out of the Top 5 largest smartphone manufacturers 3 are Chinese. Half of the global smartphone market share is Chinese brands..
>>
>>62382866
Hmm. apple, american.
Samsung, korean
LG, Korean.
That's already like 40% of the entire market share, and the top chinese ones are maybe 20% combined.
And you're just pointing out the issue, stop giving china market share, they are literally the main antagonist of reality
>>
>>62382866
Because China has massive population and they don't have any import taxes and shit on chinese manufactured goods, not to mention already being priced low because most chinese aren't particularly wealthy.

Huawei is about the only company with any real global presence. Xiaomi and similar chink brands aren't popular outside of china, you'll find them available, especially in europe. But for the most part people aren't buying them.
>>
>>62382926
Xiaomi is HUGE in India and other Asian countries, their phones are becoming popular in several European countries too. Just because they're not available in your country doesn't mean they don't have a presence outside of China.
>>
>>62382977
>>62382926
what are you even getting at here? regardless of market share buying them are still hugely unethical

>That one port can already do everything, but it can't do everything all at once. And no, splitter dongles are not a solution. Neither is >wireless

It's all about the cost to manufacture.

Cutting holes is expensive, it is an extra step in the process.

As soon as wireless charging becomes cost effective to manufacture and more efficient you won't even have a charging port.

Data transfer will all be wireless.
I am surprised it has not been done yet.

The only thing I can think of is bundling a USB plug charger is still cheaper than a wireless charger.
