I've ben using Windows 10 for about 3-4 days now and it seems at least faster than 7 and with less RAM usage. I have 20 tabs on Chrome right now and I'm at exactly 3GB usage. Even my other 8.1 laptop would be at 6 by now. This is 10 Pro but I have a copy of a verified LTSB ISO which I'll install soon. How's the stability in general on older Thinkpads? I'd like to install it on my W530 unless Win7 is better suited. All I care about is stability and reliability, much more important than raw speed. It would make sense that Win7 is more stable on this particular machine though.

>>
>>62358829
Because you can't find the hashes for LTSB isos on the official wangblows site so there's a chance that all the isos out there are being inaccurately audited using fake hashes to verify against. Then there's the activator, which while unnecessary is still desirable in case it starts phoning home since LTSB is gated behind a volume purchase agreement worth some relatively big bucks.

Basically to escape the botnet you may as well be bending over to another one. Instead I'll just use a legit copy of pro until someone trustworthy can prove the hashes provided by the scene kids are legit. And until someone audits the activator. Of course I guess you can do the KMS shit with a simple script anyways.
>>
>>62360448
You can download the LTSB iso from MS
>>
>>62360486
Not without a special verified account. You can get a 90 day 'sample' that deactivates thereafter and is impossible to reactivate. You cannot get anything else from MS.
>>
>>62359007
>>62359007

LTSB allows you to disable updates completely and also scale back telemetry to Windows 8/8.1 levels. Only downside is that you don't get any updates AT ALL if they are not security related. Microsoft brings out a new LTSB version every year or so and you need to upgrade to those if you ever want the newer features of Windows 10. For instance: The current LTSB version is stuck on the anniversary update and doesn't support WSL.

>>
>>62360592
Because you're a faggot.
>>
>>62360592
Because Jews. No really, I decided to roll with LTSB after Microsoft removed the "open commandline here" buttons from the explorer ribbon menu. Their answer? Powershell is the new default for everything now, goy. Yes, they actually removed a feature I relied on, with a forced update. That was the last straw for me.

Because just like Linux, Windows 10 sucks.
>>

>trying to compare an OS that's been out for nearly 9 years and updates along the way to one that's been out for barely 2

You're forgetting that Windows 10 is a rolling release OS so if you were to add up all the updates and new builds released so far yes indeed it would take up more space but Windows 10 unlike previous versions of Windows actually deletes a shitload of files when an update is completed so it seems smaller.

Try harder next time.

Bitch.

I use 2015 on a laptop and 2016 on my main desktop. The 2015 build, which like other 1511 builds has a UI bug where you can't right click on taskbar icons, the calendar won't open and most importantly the start button doesn't work. I had to find some articles and run a certain powershell script to fix it. A logoff or reboot would fix it, but in like 30 minutes it would happen again until I did the script. Since they revamped the UI in 1607 I haven't run into this issue on my desktop.

All in all the 2015 build is pretty much the same as the 2016 build, only less buggy, and 1607 builds still have software support while companies aren't really testing for 1511 anymore due to mostly everyone being on 1607 or 1703 due to the forced updates.

And yeah I know 2015 LTSB is still going to be supported until 2025.

Why expose yourself to the risk in the first place? What do you gain by not installing updates? All you do is lose 5-10 minutes of your time once every month (maximum amount of time a security update can be deferred, feature updates can be deferred for 365 days on regular versions of 10)

You sound like the sort of person who doesn't wear a helmet/seatbelt and ends up having to be scraped off the road.

You realize entities can build cases over years. The fact of the matter is some system somewhere is probably tracking every blacklisted site, search term, plaintext, download that you've made, creating a profile and determining whether you're fit to continue on.

No and as mentioned above the SHA1 hash is no longer publicly available through the MS site, neither is the ISO so you're giving all your trust to crackers since they get to provide the ISO and the crack.

I can disable them, you can disable updates entirely not even allowing your OS to check the servers with group policies.

Tho I did not disable them because I have no problem with automatic updates for the OS features, office and other shit like drivers which it can update on a new release.

Wrong. There's an open source KMS emulator but not many people use it. The ISOs haven't changed so the hash is still the same as always. Unless you download some shady modified ISO by some pajeet, you're safe.
I repeat, the common ISOs are the same that are still distributed by Microsoft, if you buy a valid license

>>62374288
Security updates are given for years. You're thinking of feature updates, ie 2015 to 2016 to 2018. That does require reinstalling from an ISO afaik but all your settings and files are still there so it's not a big deal IMO. Besides, you only have to do it once a year or two

But ntfs is garbage, and no package manager is a huge drawback. On Linux my entire system is updated at the same time, whereas on Windows I need to hunt for each one or have some setting that will check for updates. In either case, I need to close out of the software, install the new update, and then I can reopen the software. Instead of just having it update though the system, no need to click next 4 times, and restart it.
>No bash and ssh default is a non argument
They're incredibly useful utilities to have, with open standards no less, so MS has no reason not to include them besides being lazy or incompetent

The package manager for Windows will be the store, like it or not.
As for the console utilities MS had SUA which was shit. Now you get them in the ubuntu subsystem at the price of using Win10. If you miss your package manager install MSYS and you get pacman like back home, it works in Win7.

Well I definitely don't like it. Why would I use shit, by your own admission, Windows utilities when the open and tested ones are platform agnostic? Does msys manage third party software as well?
>>
>>62375832
Think of it as a toolchain, if you need something you build it through it. It is good enough to build projects statically through gcc for win.
I'm no winfag, I've gone through the pain of building everything I liked through mingw/msys and wouldn't recommend it.

I suppose. (Un)fortunately the tool chain for Windows 10 isn't really compelling enough for me, and others in this thread, to switch.
