Wait, what? They can cap the limit?

Buy eletric cars. Oy Vey!
>>
>>62347520
Yeah, but don't trust the conspiracy fags in here batteries don't normally let you fully discharge it as it can severely impact the life of a rechargeable battery. What they are donning is removing the cap.
>>
>>62347520
They have the same battery pack in most models but charge extra to grant you access to the rest of the battery pack. It's a couple thousand bucks.

>Tesla used to offer the option to buy a Model S or Model X with a 75 kWh battery pack software-locked at a capacity of 60 kWh. The option would result in a less expensive vehicle with a shorter range, but the option to pay to remotely enable the longer range at a later stage.

Yep, it's basically the car equivalent of Intel CPU upgrade codes

Happened on many laptop batteries nowadays, they could handle 80% capacity for long time but the truth is they're more than advertise capacity.

Basically:
>Tesla needs to recoup development costs in a new market
>Tesla also needs to grow the market
>Tesla wants to sell two tiers of car
>Development and production cost of manufacturing a new, smaller battery would be too high to justify it
>As a solution they create two tiers with the same hardware
>Tier 1 with full battery life
>Tier 2 is cheaper but battery life is software restricted
>This allows Tesla to sell cars at both price points without additional cost and without losing sales of the higher price.
>Tesla also allows customers who bough the Tier 2 car to "upgrade" by paying the difference later if they choose.

tl;dr
Basically, you can buy the car cheaper with decreased battery and if you want, you can pay the difference and get the full battery life later without the hassle of major maintenance to swap the batteries.
>>
>>62349034
>crash because the ai software is proprietary
Just think about how it will be in 10 years. Autonomous cars with artificial caps that you either have to accept the botnet knowing all the time were you were, what you were doing in your car, who you were with, what you were talking about, or jailbreak and install a much worse firmware such as "openCarVision" and risk it failing and falling down a bridge.
>>
That really implies that tesla cars are dogshit to me. Especially the fact that they could also decrease your battery life over the years and saying "we didn't do anything. battery just got older" or something.
>inb4 they would never do this
Yeah sure go believe that. I won't believe it because I work for a company that does something like this with other products... There are companies that do this and there is nearly no exception.

you guys are fucking stupid

this is the same as chiptuning your car, it's just software. but car manifacturors do this so you don't blow up your car and to be in complience with the emmission norms
>>
>>62349150

You are retarded. Nobody is going to put extra battery in just to gimp it. That is gonna add unneeded cost to the product.
>>
>>62349277

At that point, everyone can get a bus pass.
>>
>>62348648

>>
>>62347602

now that sounds like something intel would do
>>
>>62347602
No, just two models. They used to sell a 60kwh that was a software locked 75kwh battery pack. Ultimately it was cheaper for them to just produce a single battery pack to sell on both models.

They no longer sell the 60kwh, now the base is 75kwh.
>>
>news clearly shows jew tactics, confirmed by the article
>people still go into mental gymnastics and talk about battery caps to longer the batteries life
lads

But...that's exactly what they did. It's more expensive to create a separate manufacturing line.
>>
haha, great marketing, genius really

off to the right start by selling capacity locked batteries and charging more to press a button and unlock design cap.

really builds trust in the brand

Everything does this, lithium batteries can critically fail when fully drained. Battery percentages aren't a real thing, it's all voltage drop.
>>
>>62347545
They can do that with just about any car made since the 80's.
>>
>>62351738

also they literally do use to it assassinate people

If it's the exact same car, it costs just as much to make the "cheaper" one
They aren't reducing the price of the limited one, they're increasing the price of the non-gimped version.
If they can sell the limited version for $10,000 (Made up number) and make a profit, then there's absolutely no reason they couldn't sell the non-limited version for the same amount. It's the exact same hardware, they just charge more to not fuck you.

No, you can pay $2000 to have it removed normally, they're basically giving you a free trial during the hurricane.
