JUST USE A HOSTS FILE GODDAMMIT.png

This is the solution to 98% of all nuisances on the web.

...and? What's your point? Host blocking has been around since the last century.

I use privoxy + dnscrypt filtering + hosts blocking.

Works a charm. Convert AdBlock lists into privoxy compatible.
>>
>>62330016
already done
>>
>>62330016
I didn't even think of that...
Quite effective really.
>>
>>62330074
point is raising awareness (or a google shill)

blocking is so yesterday though, since adnauseam it is obfuscation where it is at
>>
>>62330115
Except that this is a comprehensive list that not only blocks ads and tracking sites but other annoying shit as well (unsolicited porn pop ups, shit like 2faggots1kike, Windows 10 Telemetry/spying etc.)
Host blocking should be a staple in anyone's network setup.
>>
>>62330177
clearly you don't understand, being a passive ad blocking faggot is not the way out of this shitty place we ended up in, people need to step up to be an active ad clicking bull instead of playing catch up
>>
>>62330231
>Let me get get tracked, slow my browser, load the full page and make google rich, but they'll know in time I never saw them ads
You zombie shills are the worst
>>
Please explain host blocking and how to get started. Explain it to me like I'm 5.

Thanks!

Bumping for raising awareness

you have to go back
>>
>>62330366
Well, you redirect every host's FQDN to localhost so your operating system cannot properly resolve their addresses, thus getting completely rid of them.
>>
>>62330391
If i go back then I'll never learn. Embrace me, brother. I want to ascend to the next plain
>>
>>62330400
I'll just Google "blocking ads with host files" and see what pops up then I guess
>>
>>62330490
afaiu your browser needs to associate a domain name with an IP address, but instead of looking it up in a name server, you specify the resolution of all these addresses to your local IP

Are you guys really that tech illiterate?

Computers on a network get an address.
Each computer needs a different address in order to separate who is talking to who, sort of like how physical mail works.
The tcp/ip network is very popular, and in it, every computer has an address called an IP address.
This address can be hard to remember, so we use domain names instead.
A domain can look like
boards.4chan.org
The org is the top level domain.
A lot of sites are under this.
People who own the org domain can add other domains under this.
The 4chan domain is under this domain.
The boards domain is a subdomain the controller of 4chan can add any subdomain as they want.
Now in order to find out which IP address owns the boards.4chan.org domain, you have to ask a domain name server (DNS).
Your computer might already know the answer, so it can save a ton of time by storing sites you know.
You can host your own DNS, eg if you want everybody on your network to get redirected to a site for free.
A hosts file is a shortcut for this which allows you to set a fixed address for your computer, so it doesn't have to look up the DNS.
If this address is your own, it will stop any requests for those domains and check if you have it instead.
Be aware that the internet is a bloated piece of trash, so the IP of a server might not take you to the website the same way the domain does.
But it is useful for blocking.

Another way to block traffic (which is much more sane) is with a firewall.
With iptables, it is something like
iptables -A INPUT -s <ip-addr> -j DROP
>>
>>62330597
I guess you can't blame people for not knowing what you know, even if a hosts file is self-explanatory and google has been around since forever ago.
>>
>>62330597
yes i am
>>
>>62330016
>doesn't like nuisances
>uses windows
doubt
>>
>>62330016
You should tell this to the AdNauseam shills
>>
I'm looking for the proxy made by a Chinese guy that was reuploaded on github with 'forever' in the name. Forgot how it's called.
>>
>>62330016
How can I automatically download and update this on gnu+linux and why is it not part of my distro out of the box?
>>
>>62334134
Curl or wget

Then leave retard
