i will definitely will not do such a thing. dot-net, vs, vb, etc. runtimes are a complete joke and utter mess! there is no excuse, especially in this day and age.

no
install GNU+Linux of you're choice
>>
>>62329099
Have you seen linux lib directory of nonfresh installation?
>>
I doubt GNU/Linux is any better, it's just you can't see usually see all the installed packages in a nice UI like this (not that that's impossible on GNU/Linux or anything).

help a brainlet understand - what exactly are these things? are they just c++ libraries that windows applications use to function? why are they called "visual"? are they to help developers design the interfaces more easily?
>>
>>62329099
Microsoft could theoretically combine all those into one, but they won't.
>>
>>62329099
Why should I ramlet... Also get a fucking life beyond lurking in the TMG
>>
>>62329477
No iirc they can't.
MS doesn't know how this shit works anymore, according to that one meme floating around.

They're all "install this to make shit work" files at this point. Nobody actually understand them.
>>
>>62329430
Not even MS knows
>>
>>62329761
Only way to fix it is complete re-write of system?
>>
>>62329099
What happens if I deinstall the old ones, but a program ends up needing one? Will it tell me which one it is so I can reinstall it or what?
>>
>>62329933
No because then legacy code wouldn't work
They have to keep it on there forever
>>
modularity is good
>>
I've never encountered dependency problems installing programs that rely on these.
Because I have multiple versions, each application has the version it needs.
There is no "this is what this one wants, but this program needs an older version and loonix doesn't fucking recognise that, and your program is fucked"
version control, package management... great in theory, but linux seems not to realise developers are still shitheads
>>
The Apple Macbook Pro with Retina Display doesn't have this problem.
>>
>>62329430

These are C++ runtime libraries, things which are necessary for an application that's written in C++ to work. The "Visual" part of the name is related to the old "Visual C++" IDE Microsoft had, although otherwise meaningless. Apps tend to link against oddly specific versions of these libraries and therefore many will install the version they linked against as part of their installation process.
>>
>>62329430
Libraries that most programs made on Visual Studio need to function. The problem is that every program comes bundled with the version that was used to program it, so after a few months you get OP's pic.

As far as I know, you can't just leave the most recent version because they're not compatible.

>>62330100
Can't reproduce.

1.that's why win is so versatile and devs can do whatever the fuck they want
2. you don't have to see that so why does i bother you?

It's just my autism. Out of 30 things I've got installed, 9 are drivers and 16 are these c++ versions.

On a related note, defend this.
>>
>>62330446
As always Microsoft fails to deliver most recent device drivers with their Update Server.

Pathetic.
>>
>>62330446
windows is a nightmare for trying to keep track of whats on your pc. there's also bloatware shit that doesn't appear there, like I think candy crush doesn't even go in there since its an OS program or some excuse
>>
>>62330446
Just uninstall them all the game you will play has the prerequisites queued for install.
>>
>>62330502
why isnt there just a lib dir? why do i need 3 billion different copies of d3d? the only advantage to this that i can see is patching individual game dll's with sweetfx or enb or whatever other bullshit gfx mod, but thats not really worth the disorganization mess that comes with it. fuck microsoft's space wasting incompetence
>>
>>62330594
I don't think only games use them. iirc Libre Office uses the 2015 one, but I could be wrong. The others could be related to 7-zip, avast, ccleaner, chrome or some windows program.
>>
>>62329099
>Micros**t
Found your problem
>>
>>62330141
Can't they just package the library in their installation folder?
>>
>>62329099
Why can't Microsoft just release a "Visual C++" package like they do with DirectX 9.0c?
>>
>>62329430
if lazy devs wanna use m*cr*s*ft libs then you need to have those things installed
>>
>>62330606
>why isnt there just a lib dir

That's the wrong question. Even if there was a lib dir, nobody would use it because Windows is pure anarchy. It's not regulated. The Windows store is slowly changing that, though.
