I don't know the reason but looking at this i'm finally convinced that MS is scared. I don't know if it may be the recent statistics about the usage of linux increasing by 100% in just a few months or the fact they finally realized that the desktop is not the only profitable market and that in fact is shrinking, along with the fact they have either not being able to force their monopoly or that they have directly fail hard in any other market.

Read this and laugh, and no, you'll not convince me this is not an sponsored article:
http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/forget-linux-use-windows/

For anyone with more than half brain: look at him and laugh.

Normally it should not be sensible to point the finger that way to a company, the problem is that MS already has a BIG record on using this kind of tactics.

http://techrights.org/2007/11/23/astroturfing-microsoft-examples/

What? will you say that this links are a but of bullshit? ok, but at least it contains sources and i don't think it has any more bullshit than the other article.

Also remember when MS tried it's best to deter people from buying chromebooks?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjQhYBKInwo

A few years later now they are trying to push Windows S, can they be more pathetic? Seriously, if there's an actual MS shill here please deliver the message that they need to work hard into making better products instead of trying to cripple the competing solutions with lock-ins and similar tactics. They already destroyed their reputation at this point and it's becoming harder to clean it with ads.

you are retarded m8
>>
TL;DR
>>
I truly respect the Linux developers who contributed their time on something extraordinary like this. You never know that the kernel you write will be the biggest threat against a company such as Microsoft, decades later. A big toast for my friends who believed in the libre software, cheers!

The earth is Satan's domain, they are kings here, and since heaven probably doesn't exist they're the definitive winners.
>>
>>62321610
Nothing special, i'm just saying i feel that microsoft is scared of competition and that they're trying again to pull their old dirty tactics. Sad if i'm right.

>>62321580
Why tho?
>
>>
MS doesn't care about Windows or the desktop anymore, they're a cloud services company now. They have no reason to be scared, they're one of the largest tech giants in the world and have been experiencing consistent strong growth since Ballmer's forced retirement.

But yes, MS has always used dirty tactics to push their products and it shouldn't come as a surprise to anybody that they're doing stuff like this, it's practically the one constant that has defined the company for the past 40 years.
>>
>>62321561
>it's the sony shill from /v/ again

off yourself
>>
>>62321561
Well, Micros**t realized it's dying so it resorted to openly spying on people.
>>
>linux desktop usage reachine 3%

and yet when you walk around you still see people using macbooks running osx, or regular laptops running windows. outside of niche areas you will never come across a normal random person running linux on their laptop.

windows is still king in enterprise and at home, microsoft is not scared of fucking linux taking over you fucking idiot. enter the real world
>>
>>62322368
>MS has always uses dirty tactics
And Intel...and Google...and every other big corporation. I mean come in, there are no good guys in corporations, that's why they are called corporations.

>>
>>62322586
like i said: niche areas

good luck finding someone in an airport using linux that isnt taking a flight to vegas for defcon
>>
>>62322619
I see countless people at airports using linux on their phones. Very few laptop users at all.
>>
>>62322368
>MS doesn't care about Windows or the desktop anymore, they're a cloud services company now.
>They have no reason to be scared
No, this is exactly why they should be scared if they're not already, because they're not nearly as successful in any other area, they have a good business with azure, but they're not able to force a monopoly the same way as others, so they have been forced to support linux on the server side and to offer linux solutions, this is not necessarily something bad however they don't have a record on playing nice with competition.

>they're one of the largest tech giants in the world and have been experiencing consistent strong growth since Ballmer's forced retirement.
>But yes, MS has always used dirty tactics to push their products

IMO there's a contradiction here. If they're not scared and have not reason to be scared why to do this, they only tarnish their reputation with potential business partners (the average joe can be bought back with ads, one of the reasons why they often not have short term consequences). As you say, they're big but they're also specialist on shooting themselves in the foot and i don't think they deserve sympathy.

>it's practically the one constant that has defined the company for the past 40 years.
That's the point. In my personal opinion their products has never been that good, a lot of their business has been successful thanks to dirty tactics and it's becoming harder to pull them each day.

>>62322389
>it's the sony shill from /v/ again
So basically criticizing Microsoft makes me a shill for any competing company? by this logic defending Microsoft makes you a shill for MS or what?

>>62322454
Probably, that's why their TOS became noticeably worse when W10 came out. It was already bad before, but still reasonable. Now honestly i don't get why there's people that defends them. And if anybody was going to point at it, yeah, i think google is at least as shitty regarding privacy.
>>
>>62322639
literally moving the goalposts
>>
>>62322649
How is that moving goalposts? Walk through any airport in the world and you'll see countless people using linux operating systems or Apple operating systems, but EXCEPTIONALLY few microsoft operating systems.

Microsoft is fucked. They're getting left behind and they know it. They're a has-been.
>>
>>62322641

A wounded monster is still a monster.
>>
I dont think MS gives a shit. Microsoft has been aware that the PC, and in conjunction, the windows market has been shrinking daily for the last 10+ years. That's why they've diversified a shit-ton. I dont think the windows os even accounts for a quarter of their revenues, its all enterprise and cloud computing shit now
>>
>>62322667
because you know we are talking about laptops and desktops, for you to bring up mobile phones shows how disconnected from reality you are.
>>
>>62322687
No, we're talking about Microsoft being SCARED. Microsoft is scared as hell because the market they dominated for years is the market that's dying and in the emerging markets they're getting their ass kicked.
>>
>>62321561
Don't feel bad for Microsoft, they deserve the worst
>>
>>62322511
>and yet when you walk around you still see people using macbooks running osx, or regular laptops running windows.
What's your point? 3% is small compared to the 100%, that's obvious. Yet grasp that 3% of all the computer users are a huge number of people, and we're talking only about laptops and desktops.

>outside of niche areas you will never come across a normal random person running linux on their laptop.
Ok, i'll not try to negate your personal experience, yet i don't see what point are you trying to make.

>windows is still king in enterprise and at home, microsoft is not scared of fucking linux taking over you fucking idiot.
Ok, why a company that is "not scared" needs to resort to this kind of tactics? what's the point? The point is that linux and others already take other probably more profitable areas and linux growing so much suddenly on the market where they're the king is just the cherry ont the top of the cake. They may be fine now but you're not thinking about the future.

> enter the real world
What's the purpose of saying this? if you're trying to discredit me (ad hominem) with no arguments then good luck.
>>
>>62321561
>You have truly finally won, when they come to interview for work at Microsoft.
And together they work to destroy Microsoft from inside
>>
>>62322721
microsoft is not competing in the mobile phone market. this thread is about laptop and desktop computers in both consumer and enterprise.

put the goalposts back where they started.
>>
>>62322721
no they aren't lol

They're absolute fucking dominating the enterprise and cloud computing market for businesses/corporations/etc, which is where all the real money is (corporate clients have no issues paying absurd monthly/yearly service fees, unlike everyday customers, as long as the wheels keep turning and shit works).
>>
>>62322734
for osx and linux to have the same market share, you sure as fuck see more osx machines than linux in the wild.

>No, this is exactly why they should be scared if they're not already, because they're not nearly as successful in any other area
It isn't 2005 anymore, Windows only represents a fraction of MS' revenue stream (9%). Office completely dominates its' market with zero competition, and Azure is taking control of the enterprise cloud computing market, with growth rates twice as high as AWS across the board. MS is very serious about the cloud services business and they've been extra aggressive in pushing into the market since pajeet took over. Together, Office and Azure combine for 50% of Microsoft's revenue.
>>
>>62322763
>for osx and linux to have the same market share, you sure as fuck see more osx machines than linux in the wild.
>its almost as if those numbers are biased...
What if your personal experience is what is biased? oh yeah, that's why it's called personal experience.

>but good job responding to every sentence
Does this sentence shows a weak attempt to paint the fact i'm actually giving proper answers and try to paint it as something bad? good luck with that.

>the fsf must pay you well
Ok, fair enough, i also implied there's people shilling for microsoft which is something i honestly believe and the fact it has already happened multiple times in the past is backed up with sources in the OP. I give you that, i'm not going to get a proper discussion by calling people shills from the start. Yet i think is something that at least deserve to be denounced and people deserves to know MS uses this tactics to be able to be skeptic in the future. If you genuinely think i'm a shill then it's fine, but let me ask to the reader. How much sense make someone shilling for the FSF in the first place?
>>
>>62322741
>microsoft is not competing in the mobile phone market.
Because they failed... just saying.
>>
>>62322761
this, the daily brainlet tier threads about how they're dying are tedious
>>
>>62322818
>Windows only represents a fraction of MS' revenue stream (9%)
>Together, Office and Azure combine for 50% of Microsoft's revenue.
Dude, that's precisely part of the problem. I'm not saying they're not serious about cloud services, just that they don't dominate nearly as much as on the desktop. Maybe you're not thinking beyond the numbers:

- MS needs people to be familiarized with their OS and their tools. Why do you think people would choose MS tools if there's competing tools that already proved to be as good or better? because is people that has used windows all their life, of course they gonna keep buying microsoft.
- If the windows marketshare it's reduced in a significant way this means there will be more people that will choose multi-platform tools instead of windows specific tools because that people is familiar with linux. This already happened to some extent, they already need to support linux or directly open source a lot of their tools on the server side or that is related to develop for the "cloud".
- At the moment they keep people from moving entirely to linux by training or paying developers into using their incompatible technologies. If the marketshare grows enough more companies will start supporting linux and they'll not be able to keep that people.
- People in this thread talks as if linux being a niche market makes it "not important", yet what kind of people you think is often among that niche? yes, the people who usually chooses what products to buy at companies. If there's more IT people familiarized with linux they may lose a lot of juicy deals (as you mentioned, a lot of their revenue). So they need more people to grow with windows in case they become the kind of people that will buy their services in the future.

As you can see, windows is not only a market by itself, but also their most important way to make sure people will buy their other products in the future. Think about that.
>>
>>62322884
OP here, to be fair i never said they're dying, just that they're scared which is something i infer based on their desperate tactics. See the points on >>62323062
>>
>>62323086
But the claim is quite ridiculous, mainly because it can be applied to any company that is still active.
>>
>>62323118
I'm not saying Microsoft is the only company that behaves like that. Yet that doesn't should be a deterrent to criticize them and also i think the "all companies are the same anyway" is a fallacy. You're free to create a thread or post that criticizes other companies you consider should be denounced and people will discuss it the same way you're doing of course.
>>
>>62323151
I think you need to work on structuring your sentences better. They seem to get mixed up.
The statement wasn't that "all companies are the same" rather that your claim is invalid because it applies to all companies. It's a vague statement with nothing to back it up.
>>
>>62323253
>your claim is invalid because it applies to all companies
Sadly this statement is vague too and with nothing to back it up. As i said the part of being scared is something i infer, of course i cannot read mind remotely to know they actually are, is just that why a company that is doing fine and not worried at all needs to resort to this kind of things? Regarding the part of "desperate tactics", the part where i qualify it as "desperate" is my opinion of course, however i actually back up the claim that those tactics has been used in the past. Please read the OP, as you can see my claim that those tactics has been used is backed up by sources.
>>
>you should switch to windows because microsoft offers live support
I tried to install Windows 7 off of a USB 3 flash drive once and it just mysteriously wouldn't work. I called Microsoft support and they basically told me to fuck off and call the distributor of my hardware.

>Windows typically gets new drivers first, closely followed by macOS
>OSX doesn't have OpenGL 4.2 support yet
>>
>>62324298
Consumer support of them is shit.
>>
>>62321561
MS tried all the tactics you mention and it just pisses people off. There are more people using Windows 7 than Windows 10 still.

Now the poos are in charge and they are confident, like IBM was, that they have everybody on perma-lock-in.

It was a shit company from the start though, there's no reason to feel bad.
>>
>>62321561
Well they deserve it. Windows 8 and 10 are failures. Botnet shit. And they fucked up many things to make tech's who mostly learned about xp or 7 life harder

If microsoft will really care about money for windows and they are scared, they will make next windows more like 98/xp/7 with new driver/software support and without botnet.

But microsft thinks windows cant be taken from throne of desktop os so probably they will make even more fucked up wangblows with more "new design" and more botnet.

I am convinced MS shills are real. I feel as a macfag they have targetted apple with false info (e.g. that macOS is locked like iOS) and tried to pit freetards and applefags against each other.

Truth is as a macfag I think Linux is a great idea with potential. I don't feel hate for the Linux community, I have used Linux myself. Yet there seems to be this image pushed that macfags don't know technology and linux is crazy.

In the midst of all this who is profiting? Why would a freetard make up false apple info? Nobody profits from Linux so I rule that out. Pic related is also an example of false Linux info. There is good evidence that MS has shilled here before so why is it so crazy to assume shills might be out there.

Shills are real and I agree with you OP. They are scared too or they wouldn't be resorting to false info.
>>
>>62326760
Of course they're real, this has been established firmly since the 1990s. Certainly they existed in the '80s and even '70s too.

They don't have the truth on their side though

Installing Windows from a USB is broken as fuck. I spent days trying to get it work because I had no other choice, and the solution that finally succeeded was unplugging the USB after everything loaded up and then plugging it back in.

OP, you're a retard.

Windows, despite what freetards like to believe, isn't Microsoft's most important product. It's basically a side-business at this point, like Xbox or Azure. They don't give a fuck about linux market share because it literally doesn't matter.

Microsoft's crown jewel is MS motherfucking Office. It runs the entire business world. It has virtually no competition. You can move to linux but you can't move away from Office. As long as Office is as good as it is, and it's absolutely excellent, MS has nothing to worry about.
