Sup lads? I'm a civil engineering student and although I have a decent desktop, it turns out I need a portable computer for a workshop where Civil 3D is used.
I looked for T410s and T420s but they're at minimum 350 bucks and 430 bucks respectively, as I live in South America where everything is more expensive. I also found a Dell E6410 for 250 bucks but it has a 540M processor. A friend of mine used to have a 530M and it sucked.

Dell Latitude E65XX or the Dell Precision model of the same year. You'll get XX30 specs at XX20 price if you give up the Thinkpad brand.

I also like it since Dell doesn't have hardware DRM like XX30 series.

Turns out the Precisions are expensive AF here, 900 bucks for a M4600.
>>
Also I found a Probook with a i7-2630QM for less than 250 bucks, are those any good or should I pass?
>>
>>62321023
It's a ProBook 4530s btw

540m is the *dedicated* gpu, it has cuda and might help your 3d application (rendering). Ofcourse if civil 3d dont use it then you dont need it.

Thinkpads use integrated graphics and are inferior in this regard.

you had me excited for a moment, sadly it's actually intel HD

why dont you state your budget range
>civil engineering doesn't apply budget figures
>>
I'm a civil student too, while I've never used civil 3d (go figure), I have used regular autocad on my ThinkPad t420. I would not recommend. The graphics performance is so shit that it lags when drawing lines etc. It's usable at a push but I always use a desktop to do autocad work. T430 has better graphics but I don't know if it's good enough.

Are you in Chile by any means?

ew
thanks for the warning, I'll try to research a bit more so I can get something that's competent enough. The teacher uses a thinkpad that's rather small and it runs well. I remember it had a Windows 7 sticker and a i7 VPro sticker or i5 VPro, not sure
>>62322854
nope, I'm on the East coast
>>
>>62324255
I think it was a X220 or X230
>>
>>62324283
maybe even a X201
