I'm curious, how much better is that i7 vs a 2-core @ 3.5 GHz G4560 Pentium? Aren't devs still optimizing their games for a maximum of 2 cpu cores?
I fucking hate intel stock coolers today I had to make these chains of strips because I broke the plastic nipples you are supposed to use to secure the cooler to the motherboard. it's a fucking stupid design and I hate it. at first I had to make only one chain and secure the left side of the cooler to the fan holes and motherboard mask but I discovered a part of the strip that was preventing the fan from spinning causing a system block due to high temperatures so I had to make ANOTHER chain of strips from the HDD cage to the cooler and linking it to the first chain of strips to distance it from the fan. now everything works but guess what? THE FUCKING COOLER IS NOISY IT SUCKS FUCK YOU INTEL

I recently upgraded from my FX 8350 to a Threadripper meme.
And it does pretty well.
- Handles several VMs a once without a problem
- Archiving and encoding is really quick
- Stays cool and quiet with a Noctua air cooler
- Delivers over 100 FPS in all the games I've tested so far
I never had an Intel chip in my rigs because AMD always offered the better value for my money as I decided to upgrade.

game developers are kind of scattershot, some only go for one core, some utilize 6 cores, and this is the normal range, there are I believe under 10 games currently that scale with 8 cores
Most games are for 2 or 4 cores though, and when its 2 cores, benchmarks will show a dead heat between i7 and pentiums when the i7 isnt oced to hell and back, then the i7 crushes it in everything that uses more than 2 cores.
however, this is a near synthetic load, only enough shit loaded to run the games, when you start going into real world loads as in shit running in the background, 6 cores and 8 cores start to shine, with up till the 1700 the 6 core being the most bang for buck, as you weren't trading much maximum frame rate for FAR better load balancing.
>>62318254

The cheap quadcore chips they ship Raptor 2 with will probably be rather shit, if you want to know. Depends what you're doing. For 99.9% of people, the Intel Core i7 (or i9) is not a particularly good value.
Personally, nothing I need done quickly today takes advantage of more than four cores, so my preference is the Core i5.
Another thing to consider is Intel's engineering quality, documentation, and corporate responsibility is top-tier.
Just try to find anything from AMD even vaguely equivalent to this detailed Intel documentation:
https://01.org/sites/default/files/documentation/intel-gfx-prm-osrc-kbl-vol02c-commandreference-registers-part2_0.pdf
Also look how Intel handled the P67 SATA controller issue, which was essentially 'your secondary 3Gb/s ports might degrade in the future and exhibit data corruption'.
