Why don't they ask money for Linux distributions? If we all purchase or in the very least donate to developers, wouldn't Linux be much better? I don't get this - it's all about libre, not free as in beer, yet nobody dares to ask money for their work.
That's capitalist talk

Because users will choose to not pay, and you will end up with a tiny userbase.
>if i throw money at it, it is guaranteed to become better
hardly
I've already donated to the Debian project and Linux Mint (although I don't use Mint anymore).
May I introduce you to RHEL and Xandros

>open-source RPCS3 emulator
>lead developer starts asking money for it
>gets about 2500 dollars a month to work full-time on the software
>project advances more in half a year than the 3 preceding years it was already in development in
Money just werks.

Just donate your time and contribute like a good commie
>>62315214
hardware limitations didn't play a role in this?
They're all based on GNU and GNU's license explicitly forbids selling derivitive works
>>62315290
Wrong. You could burn any software licensed under GPL to a CD and sell it for $100 if you wanted, as long as you include the source code.
>>62315290
No it doesn't you fucking retard.

>>62315304
Just looked it up. I'm extremely wrong. Just kill me and get it over with
>>62315332
No, kill yourself

Pretty much every distro asks for donations...

Hardware didn't advance in the last 3 years
You used to be able to buy boxed distributions in stores.
