Gnome if you dont care about bloat and extreme resource cost

How do you change display, hardware, software and other settings? Do you use a compositor?

Solus/Budgie
Don't use Debian. Always out of date.
More like XFCE or Mate. Anything else is either bloat with countless config files scattered around filesystem or unusable for every day use because of how "minimal" it is.

For a lot of use cases you don't really give a shit, so long as you have security patches. I can count on one hand the number of programs where I really care about having the latest-and-greatest version. And for those there's always either backports or building from source.
