Read the paper, not the article written by some mathematical illiterate. They use AUC which picks a bunch of random gay people and a bunch of random straight people, and measures how many were guessed correctly. So the accuracy of always guessing straight would just be 50%. An accuracy of 91% means you are doing significantly better than chance.

Second your math is wrong. Getting a ratio of correct:incorrect of 91:9 on a 50:50 dataset, means your test increases the odds by a factor of 10. So imagine there is a 16 to 984 odds someone is gay. A positive on this test would increase those odds to 162 in 984. Or about 14% probability.

Which is still low, but nevertheless 10x better than chance. And the people it misclassifies may be unusually feminine straight men, bisexuals, or other outliers.

So person A becomes gay in timeline 1 through living a certain life. In timeline 2 person A becomes straight through living a certain life.
