Org-mode and org-export is the main reason this is true. You get to write shit in a non aids format, and if you need to write something Org-mode doesn't support natively you can still write straight latex and it'll export fine. Add to that "spreadsheet-lite" tables, inline images and math equations without having to compile the entire document, and a few other features and org-mode destroys anything else.
