Look how comfy the daily build of Ubuntu 17.10 is becoming. Ditching Unity was a great idea.

Nah, I'll just one of the Unity forks, or Cinnamon, or KDE or Mate, or even TWM.
Any one of them is better than this garbage.
They should just turn GNOME3 into Unity through extensions. They could offer the default Unity look or the GNOME3 look at first run.
>>62301898
But that's what they're doing. Except they're doing it wrong.
>>62301927
It still looks too much like GNOME3, it's basically just a different color scheme. I was thinking like make the title bars skinny rather than morbidly obese and add a user configurable sidebar/dock with commonly used applications
>>62301898
i dont think canonical will care that much. Desktop doesnt offer them money anyways. With the death of unity, desktop needs to be as profitable as possible.

I tried to use the replacement "ip addr" but its output is really fucking bad. ifconfig pretty prints, if you can call it that, by separating interfaces into paragraphs.
Not "ip addr" though. It prints a wall of text with various indents and just looks like shit. It's not formatted whatsoever. Why don't they fix it? It's not hard to change output format for something so simple
>>62305806

Basically Unity 7 but more beautiful, faster animations, better overall behavior, no more X11, etc etc.
Instead we got a severe downgrade, back to GNOME.
Linux desktop is dead and you can thank your friends at Red Hat for this, also the GNU zealots who bashed Ubuntu all these years, and finally, of course, /g/ hipsters who would always trash the best Linux DE for people who just want to get things done like Donald Knuth or that Google guy.

Same with all ip commands and netstat/ss. Check:
$ netstatu -tulp
$ ss -tulp
You can get better formatting by piping to column -t but still iproute2 utilities look kinda strange compared to net-tools, though I guess it makes scripting easier.
