Surely you guys have better internet service than us in terms of quality and price right?

I can have double that speed for less than 40 euros a month. Fuck Straya and your godawful internet.

I'm paying $70/mo for 500Mbps here in the US.

Going to switch to NBN some time soon. I'd say bargain with them if possible. We're on 1tb a month quota and the full speed boost on old hfc cable (100/2.5) for 89 a month because we re-contracted and spoke to their sales department. If you ask them for a better deal or you may think of switching they'll likely give you it. Even if it's just 20 bucks less a month try for it. Hell quote my republic if you want, they're doing the 100/40 for 69.99 a month and no quota limit.

Where in Australia? Work has it but no residential provider does.
>>
>>62295964
Is my republic good for nbn? Have to switch over soon so either going to remain with telstra as they've never given us issues and have been solid for speed (get the 100mbps on current hfc cable basically 24/7 even during peak). But obviously they will be expensive. Is my republic good with providing the speed they promise? (100/40) at 70 bucks. Also do they throttle if you use a lot? I obviously don't intend to hammer the network just mostly download things every now and then and have fellow roommates who stream netflix/youtube a lot. I've downloaded over 150gb in about 4 hours before without speed dropping one bit, though on a set quota so I'm assuming that's why.
>>
>>62296024
Weren't they doing gigabit in one of the towns as a fuck you to nbn/government saying it can't be done.

it's a residential plan.

the population voted to kill off the NBN, can only blame the voters really. high cvc charges make offering this country wide impossible unless you want to pay $500+ a month
>>
>>62296025

normal plans are behind CGNAT (you dont actually have a public IP address... you cant port forward anything) but if you pay $10 extra for the 'gamer plan' you do get your own static ip and no cgnat

100/40 is $59 a month unlimited. it's good yo

they are mostly (like another anon wrote above) doing it as a fuck you to NBN Co and the government on CVC charges. It's costing them half a million to subsidise this so I dont mind too much. Either they bring the extremely high access charges down for providers everywhere or they don't and sell the NBN off to Telstra (most likely)

I will be leaving this shit country either way. Whoever is in my house can stream 125 simultaneous 4K Netflix streams until then I guess.

That's just how they allocate the plans over HFC, base plan is 30/1, 1 tier up is 50/2, and highest is 100/2.5 (ends up being around 114mbps in practice though as seen through speedtest/steam (also get the same through battlenet/youtube etc.) though as they provision it as ~115/3, am about 5-6km from the exchange (probably a bit more in terms of actual cable length) so it's pretty good that i can basically get the full line speed despite that. But yeah the upload being pretty low is kind of shit but that's where NBN comes in (though at reduced download). Pic related is speeds over steam usually.

UK, unlimited data allowance, 72.00dl / 18.00ul, £35/month, TalkTalk
premium package too, because when I first signed up for the premium, that was how you got unlimited allowance, but that's now basic. It does massively improve the customer service however, which was another reason I upgraded.
Seriously, it was a little annoying that I had to upgrade for that, but it worked fucking wonders. There was an issue with the box down the road where there had been a storm and damage was done to wires outside of my house. Initially all I got was fucking Indians on the phone who wouldn't do anything other than repeat the same fucking lines that were written on their sheets, no matter what I told them.
Once I'd upgraded, suddenly I had a British person on the other end of the phone who actually listened and suddenly they were extremely helpful and sent someone out as soon as they could.
Drilled & wired in a whole new filter box, changed the wires and fine tuned the connection for me at the box for a higher speed setting than I was designated for at the time.
>>
>>62296352
Oh, and to make it clear, that also covers the phone line, line rental, TalkTalk TV (if I ever use it) and all that too. Complete package.

>>
>>62296340
what argument? is english not your first language?
>>
>>62296316

Look at any actual data from any other source other than the NBN to see the truth

>The average annual revenue from each connection is currently $516, or about $43 a month. At this level, NBN Co will only achieve revenue of $5 billion if it connects at least 9.6 million premises. However, it is predicting only 8 million connections by 2020.

>Its operating expenses are running at about $1.4 billion every six months
>>
>>62296378

the thing is ISP's blame the NBN and NBN Co blame the ISPs so nothing gets fixed ever.

it's become the biggest joke in the country after Turnbull dismantled the entire thing straight after being let in.

Turnbull has the nice history of running internet scams going back to his days at Ozemail and also a huge proponent of forcing encyption services to give them access to everyones keys or backdoors.

no surprises in this shit country anymore

Rudd gave us all free money, a true internet for every australian and these fuckwits take it all away asap

As for now i have only seen one street cut open to put down the optic fiber and it's like 300 meters away from me. I don't understand why aren't they working full steam ahead and start offering it, i swear to god this country is stuck in the 1950's

Ping is either due to shitty networking gear (but with those speeds that's less likely), or your ISP has shitty peering in general.
