Well hello everybody on /g/ from simple windows rookies to gentoo hardcores. From arch linux pacman tamers to ubuntu lovers.
Especially to all people who like linux work on it or just play with it.
I wanna tell you one thing.
I LIKE LINUX MINT.
Yeah we can talk about some issues or even mint page hack (what can happen to every page ever).
But cant we talk about what GOOD linux mint has? Because actually it has reasons why i believe in linux mint.
Even if dev team is not epic like other distros, but they know what they want to do. They have idea to make "linux for rookies" and we can agree they do job well. You just give a guy who totally doesent know linux a mint installer and he will set up his first working linux machine in less than hour.
Linux mint is improved more and more as we can see.
I believe in linux mint. I hope someday linux mint will dont have blacklist flaw. I believe clem will make linux mint even better than it is.

I want to like Linux Mint, but I've heard so much about security problems tied to it that I wouldn't even want to recommend it to newcomers.

Well. Same here. But i dont think it is less safe than windows. But the other way i hope linux mint will solve these issues in future.
What does Mint even offer over normal Ubuntu?

Driver manager what detects your hardware installs drivers you need.
Better official DE.
Dev team who actually cares about community opinion and allways following an idea of making perfect home distro.

Nowadays most hardware is detected out of the box, but it is admittedly a nice utility to have around
>Better official DE.
To each their own taste. I'm a KDE man myself so I don't give a shit about GNOME and Cinnamon, and so do those who prefer Xfce, MATE, LXDE, Budgie or standalone WMs.

Yes and in return they seem incapable to do something as simple as proper repackaging.

Linux noob here, cinnamon is comfy as fuck.
I can program in c and run eve comfortably too. It's not a bad casual distribution.
It's driver management is pretty nice too.
Its learning curve is pretty soft too.
I might be naive, but I'm pretty comfortable whilst doing so.

mint just werks™

this, default driver installation/settings on ubuntu is absolute shit, mint it just works out of the box. It comes with all media stuff preinstalled and with none of the autism of official ubuntu

No DE is limited to a single distribution
For one thing, you can slag off MS or Canonical on the Mint forums.
Slag off MS or Canonical on the Ubuntu forums and your thread will get locked.
There's "free speech" for you, Ubuntu style.

its just a functional distro, sure some outdated utilities that havent been used by anyone for the last 15 years might not work,
of course ubuntu and debian dont like this hence the screeching, muh unprofesional, muh licensing, muh *insert some autism here*
