Please explain what it is that you need this single threaded advantage for? and how big a difference is it compared to AMD.

Also i want to add that on HEDT platforms like this 18 core cpu, the single threaded performance is much lower compared to the 4core i7's.

so your point is kind of flawed from the getgo.

Yeah, you gotta admit although they use toothpaste they can at least get away with it while still achieving high frequencies with with decent tdp...

Meanwhile Ryzen chokes itself up past 4ghz and needs expensive motherboard to run decent ran which coincidentally also is the most expensive.
>>
>>62285334
Bullshit

My 2933mhz ram runs fine at 1.37v on a ASRock ab350 k4 and 1600x 3.7 is cool with a noctura and quiet as fuck stop your meming you stupid ass
>>

Yes.
There's no other way to circumvent shit yields and reticle limit.
>>
>>62285052

>Please explain what it is that you need this single threaded advantage for?

AVX2
>>
>>62285317

yeah. for cpus and gpus. if they can make the gpus actually work together without sli/CF than thats the future. gpu scaling should be 80-100% per die. while cpu scaling is still somewhat meh.

>>62285334

ok lets point out all the flaws in this post.
the cpus reach 4.3? 4.4ghz and run around 100c
once delidded and stock tim is replaced then most of them reach 4.6ghz while also 100c and consuming a shitton of power. its like with the 7900x, the samples all clocked to 5ghz, while the consumer cpus did not.
also at 4ghz the AMD cpus are like 2-3% behind intel cpus clocked at 5ghz, while consuming less power, all while running around 70c.
And amds clocks can be achieved using the stock cooler.

so AMD actually has the more efficiant arch here.
>>
>>62285403
Just buy a GPU you poorfag.
>>
What's hilarious about this board is how the balance of shills changes during working hours.

When people are actually out working for a living, mostly remains the AMD fanboys and shills.
>>
>>62285363

>cool at 3.7ghz with Noctua

Yeah, no shit... This is supposed to be impressive?

Anyway good for you, you won the lottery.

is your ram in the QVL list? Because that shit is restrictive as hell, whoever pointed that out in the older thread.

>>62285423

Muh winrar benchmarks. KyS.
>>
>>62285591
Haven't tried to push higher yet ram was not in qvl and haven't fiddled with timings yet either.

100fps is fine for me I am still GPU bount with a 1080 sadly
>>
>>62285423

>AMD clocks can be achieved using stock cooler

What the hell are you even on about... You think most 1600 can get anywhere near 1600x frequencies with stock cooler... Lying piece of shit.

Again very much a lottery. Like anything Ryzen related anyway... MB are hit and miss, CPU are hit and miss OC wise, and ram is a total nightmare.
>>
>>62284711
So where you gonna use that high Single Thread Performance? Do some retarded benchmark or get extra 5fps in a game?
I use i5(3570k) myself, but this high single thread performance meme needs to die, ryzen is around 15% slower in single thread performance (ipc and clock included), thats literally nothing, since in games gpu will always be the limiter and in apps, its a toss up between apps which are multi-thread and single-thread. But considering you can buy 6c/12t cpu+mb combo for 300$, thats just to sweet of a deal..
>>
>>62284672
What's the reasoning behind the double PCB in the i9 CPUs?
Seems a waste of resources and money for nothing.
>>
>>62285794
Semi-officially its to allow intel to put 3 different dies onto the same socket (KabyX, SkylakeX 10c, and SkylakeX 18c). Unofficially though its to keep end users from safely delidding the chips to allow for better thermal interface material to be applied.
>>
>>62285794

>>
>>62285821

>>

Even that's 100% bullshit and Intel knows it though.
They've never had a problem with LCC and HCC being the same socket before, they just had a different PCB for each.

Apart from the de-lid difficulty bump, I'm willing to bet it's because Intel wants to do embedded (soldered) Xeons in the future - even DC upgrades CPUs on the occasion, especially where it might be 10% of the cost of the new chassis.

Ryzen is expensive trash.

CPU is good price for performances, but only way to really enjoy a stable platform with "high" frequency memory is to buy good quality x370 MB at 200€ and then spend another 250€ on 3200Mhz CL14 ram just so you can get those good samsung chips.

Unless your life is watching winrar benchmarks, I wouldn't recommend Ryzen to anyone.

TIM is supposed to fill the gaps, not be the sole connection between the die and the IHS.

Yeah, or maybe you just want good 1080p performances using a 120hz monitor and good memory support across the board without breaking the bank on expensive ram and mb.

You know like normal people who don't just spend their time masturbating to Cinebench.

>>
>>62302542
The latest Shill(tm) Talking Point is that Ryzen still has a ton of RAM issues even though it's been months since AGESA 1.0.0.6 released and fixed most of them.

And now apparently you need a Z370 motherboard to overclock, which has never been the case (flat out lies from shills, yay)

And also that 3200 MHz ram is a fuckton more expensive. It's $10-$15 more. https://pcpartpicker.com/products/memory/#s=402133,403200&Z=16384002,16384004&sort=price&m=17

Z270 motherboard with decent VRMs is way more expensive, though.

Also, you need to include a 1080 ti with your 120hz monitor, or you aren't getting jack shit either way.

Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha you just bought an officially dead platform.
4c8t i7 in 2 weeks is going to ve the new i3.
I5s are 6 cores
I7s are 6cores 12 threads
And a new chipset is released making the old 200 series obsolete.
You could get ryzen 1700, but no, you had to get jewed with an i7.
Enjoy your EOLed "new" desktop
>>
>>62290927
Also the increase in GPU offload means that 8/16 or 10/20 will probably be the plateau in the consumer space for a while since those parallel workloads will become progressively less CPU-bound
>>
>>62284711
If you desperately high single threaded performance for something that absolutely can't be parallelised, you still don't want Intel's high-core-count chips.

You want the highest clock version of next month's Coffee Lake, you want to disable all but one core, you want to put cascade phase-change cooling on it - with all attendant difficulties when going sub-ambient - and then you want to try to reach 6GHz or above. You're going to need to keep getting cores until you find a golden one.

You also possibly want to avoid AVX2 or AVX-512, as heavily using the SIMD units invisibly clocks the chip down, and you wanted single-thread performance, right? You'll need to disable hyperthreading and try to avoid register shadowing backpressure as much as you can, and you want to keep the pipeline as full as you can and avoid cache line misses. Obviously you're also running a dedicated unikernel rather than a general-purpose operating system. And since you can't run ECC at the required speeds you'll need to run a few in parallel just to check the results are consistent after the fact.

Or maybe you want to try it on POWER9, which beats Intel for that?

What were you doing, the final stage of a sieve? Because you're doing all the rest of it on an nVIDIA supercomputer, not an Intel.

Or maybe you're talking about gaming performance, in which case really you're talking about the way NUMA memory latency interacts with existing game engines, but basically every game out there is in actual practice very strongly GPU-limited with anything in the i3 or Ryzen 3 range or above.
>>
>>62303227
Should've waited for Caffeine Lake. Your quad core is going to be looking pretty shit in a few years when everyone is optimizing for more cores.

>>
>>62304524
They frankensteined two PCBs together to form this rejected Xeon monstrosity, that should not live. It is an abomination unto mankind.
>>
>>62304524
The triangle indicates the orientation of the cpu in the socket. There are two triangles on that picture indicating two cpus have been glued together
>>
>>62304524
CPUs are generally squares. In an effort to make sure the average end user doesn't fuck up how they place it in, the triangle is there to line up with the triangle on the motherboard's socket.

As >>62304598 and >>62304595 have pointed out, it's proof they literally just slapped two processors together

>What does console accuracy means
It means games behave exactly the same as on console. Nothing to do with 60 fps or resolution.

If it just plays "most" (which is probably just some) games acceptably then you still have many years to wait.
Not saying they haven't been making great strides. It's actually amazing what they managed in so little time. The GameCube/Wii Dolphin emulator has been actively developed for more than 13 years and it still has severe problems.

Dual cores with hyperthreading are still relevant dude. Games are "optimized" for quad cores now but that means fuckall. You can argue that 6 cores will be the standard eventually, which is probably true, but it will be many years before quad cores with hyperthreading die.

>>62287721
Do people not realize that Intel contributes more to open source than AMD and Nvidia combined? The whole reason AMD's open source GPU drivers are good is because the community was forced to make them good, AMD's proprietary drivers were so neglected. It seems like revisionist history to to say Intel is an enemy of open source while ignoring the fact that AMD was horrible for Linux until fairly recently.

Thats the point, they're only good now because AMD realised that they had an incredibly poor reputation in the Linux community. To the point where most GPU software on Linux was only supported on Nvidia.

It's just odd that /g/ shitposts about Intel so much when they've been so friendly to Linux over the years.
