Is Linux the future?
>>
>>62277325
Linux is a meme that no one will ever take seriously

Go get a mac
>>
>>62277325
No
>>
in the future people will have computers inside of them that control them
>>
>>62277325
LInux already is the present. It's the most successful system kernel ever made.

Linux runs my laptops
Linux runs my phones
Linux runs my tablets
Linux runs my TV
Linux runs my desktop
Linux runs my router
Linux runs my server
Linux runs my fridge

Linux is THE dominant kernel. Wincucks stay cucked and mactards stay rectally shattered.
>>
>>62277335
>Go get a mac
>Implying it isn't in the same boat
>>
>>62277325
Dunno, but over the years Windows has been getting worse while Linux is getting better. Windows is still much better than Linux though.

I think Wayland might help standardize DE development some more so we can finally have a DE that works. Currently what we have is an embarrassment.

I don't see any argument.

To answer OP, it's not. The majority of the world are not autists.

I'm not surprised. Learn that Linux is THE universal OS that runs any hardware

>>
>>62277520
For an average /g/ babby, calling others autists is an argument
>>
>>62277520
What part of that was an argument? Windows can run on pretty much everything too. Who gives a fuck if it can run on a fucking fridge?

Here's my argument: It just works.
>>
Linux is a toy.
It's something you learn as a hobby.
It's fun to set up your own NAS or make something with a raspberry pi.
But for actual work, adults use windows and always will.
There's just no competition.
Using Linux for actual personal computing is like showing up to a meeting in board shorts and floaties.
You could deliver the best pitch of your career, it won't matter because you're still not being serious.
>>
>>62277550
>Windows can run on pretty much everything too.
"""pretty much"""
>>
>>62277550
>Windows can run on pretty much everything too.
Wrong in so many levels. Can't believe these people browse /g/
>>
>>62277562
Haha xD pretty sure NASA, Russian and many other military forces, Intel, Google are toying with their multi billion dollar equipments
>>
>>62277550
Run windows on a bad HDD, with dead chunks of memory if it's so great.
Oh wait.
>>
>>62277325
A more interesting question:

Is Linux the future of Desktop?

The only way I see this happening is if it can be monetized and incentivized somehow. The Linux kernel is secure and successful because of the massive corporate & government money/contributions behind it.

The same is not true for Linux Desktop environments. The NSA isn't making contributions to Gnome and Unity. Which is why all DE's are shit. The best attempt I've seen is Chrome OS, which is far better than any Linux DE, but only for the use case of basic work & web browsing.
>>
>>62277489
This guy knows nothing more about computing than porn and vidya
>>
>>62277562
I intend to start my own company and play by my own rules. That means I can use Linux AND wear board shorts.
>>
>>62277592
NASA admitted they still use windows xp for most of their computers when Windows 10 was being rolled out.

Also yes, NASA and Google are literal toy manufacturers

I don't understand this type of shilling. The only thing windows really excels and is built for is doing menial business administration tasks. There are a lot of other uses for computers, but you people apparently would like to pretend that they don't exist.

Linux is the past, present and to some extent future.

However something will emerge in the next 10-50 years that will probably eclipse Linux/Windows/*Unix

Maybe it will be some neural deep learning OS, that will be implemented on new hardware and will be able to automatically create the most efficient kernel for that device. Essentially being able to map the hardware and automatically making drivers for each component.

>not made with ada
Of course infotainment and other separated crap can go with anything. For RTOS and for some embedded toaster linux isn't the best choice because it's usually heavy weight due the laziness.
>>
>>62277772
>not made with ada
Which kernel is written in ADA? Fuck off
>>
>>62277759

I know AI is a meme at the moment, but it does make sense that a computer can probably probe hardware and based on results create a way to interact it with it on a low level.

It's kind of surprising it hasn't been done on a large scale yet, but emulation will certainly go in that direction very soon.

Go look at some of the neural art programs available already, because they are already kind of doing something similar, except they are modifying pixels and not functions.
>>
>>62277782

>>
>>62277642
ah, to be 17 years old again and not realise linux is so much more than just a cheesy looking windows replacement.
>>
>>62277787
I wonder would you want your brain to be open source? Like everyone could go and read about your capabilities and limitations, how to manipulate you, how your emotions work and so on.

I think sentient computers will go closed source instantly.
>>
>>62277843
>Like everyone could go and read about your capabilities and limitations
Knowing yourself is the best and only way to make yourself better person. This applies to software too.
>>
While this is an interesting topic. I hate to break it to the windows lovers out there but Linux is God and Windows is the popular cult. Which is why windows 10 has incorporated within it the Linux command line. So while it was said that real adults use and will always use windows. This is true but most of your servers such as Cisco are run on Linux servers and adult wise, those few with a trace of computer savvy knowledge will always pen test and break your machine with Linux.
>>
>>62277843
I think brain modification won't happen in our lifetime. Maybe in 70-150 years.

The best we will get is very strong AI, but I'm not even sure that sentient AI will happen in the next 50 years. I guess no one really knows however.

When futuristic machine learning is paired with advanced cognitive sciences using high quality brain scans on a 2030 + supercomputer, be sure we'll eventually have vol. 1-3 books to cover the entirety of human cognition, behaviour and so on - basically a manual for human.

Any business man, ill intended person, psychologist, someone who wants to score with women would just memorize the produced content of that.
>>
>>62277858
But I would just want to fuck and abuse of everyone who is not aware of that information hence not able to defend against aggressors of that sort.

It's the most rational thing to do given that skillset is present in your mind.
>>
>>62277984
You can do this with a disassembler. Also OSS doesn't mean you or anyone will understand the code more than the maintainers - except openssl :^)

Windows thought they are immortal but linux never gives up.
First linux took over servers then penguins kicked out windows from phones.
Penguins almost everywhere. But there is last land what windows owns, its "Desktop PC".

Penguin conquered bastions " customization" and "Stability", then penguins took out war machine called "Linux Mint", equipped with weapons called "Driver manager" and "gufw" it was constructed for one reason, to conquer bastion called "User friendlines"

Windows's last bastion is hardware/software compatibilty, if penguins conquer it. Linux will take throne of Desktop OS.

>>
>>62282525
barely, but rather 0. Improvements in the kernel only affect the ARM ports, maybe a tiny bit improves the other ports. Since Android uses their own C library, init, graphic system etc etc. other parts of the GNU/Linux system get literally zero advancement from mobiles.
>>
Honestly OP, if it supported half of the things windows does, it probably would be better. But they don't because of security reasons.

Maybe if all of the Linux distro makers would unit and make one open, free linux OS with no backing from companies like RedHat,Canonical maybe then we would get a rock solid OS....

But no we have numerous distros and only a few are good for LTS what most users want, the best Linux so far comes from Canonical (Xubutnu)
